We have lived in this apartment complex for more than 20 years. It is a Section 8 type of apartment. My daughter has a voucher. For the last three or four years, we have had three inspections annually. One is maintenance checking to see if anything needs to be repaired before the other two. Then we have one by the landlord and one by HUD. They usually happen during May. Nine days left of May.
This year, we got vinyl flooring put in that was finished on May 13th. The guy who did it told us that someone else would come to do the stairs, and maintenance would come to hang the closet doors. We have been holding off on moving furniture(except beds) into our bedrooms until the closets are done. We have also had to hold off on doing a deep clean on the living room until my grandson can move the stack of his 'stuff' into his room, which can't be accomplished until the closet doors are hung. So, we sit here and wait. My daughter did talk to the maintenance guy working on the next-door apartment, and he said the guy to do the stairs was supposed to be here yesterday. Oh, joy!
So, today we get a memo about a new rule HUD has set down. All furniture must be 3 feet away from the baseboard heaters in each room. Again, we've lived here for over 20 years and had stuff up against the heaters (within reason) all this time. No problems. But last year, the property that our apartment is in scored 33 out of 100 because of this. So, we will adhere to their rule, fine. But my grandson is not going to move his bed three feet out into his small room. We'll see how that goes over.
Some things are just so silly. Housing has been really good to us over the years. I can think of three instances where they could have been nasty, and they worked with us. So, I really want these inspections to happen, sooner rather than later, and get past this added anxiety these things give me every year. I am getting better at pushing the anxiety away. I used to nearly have a breakdown every year. Now, I just give my daughter some to-dos to take care of and tell her she knows what is expected for us to pass, and leave it to her to take care of her situation. She does fine nowadays.
My dream would be to have a home of our own and deal with our own issues. But, since that isn't the case, we have to go by Housing's rules. Oh, yeah!
Do you have rules you have to adhere to each year? Besides taxes.

We have a "yearly" inspection by the landlady or her secretary. When the landlady does the inspection, she steps into each room for a second, and then has us sign that she inspected the house. When the secretary does it, she steps into the living room and has us sign that she's done the inspection.
We just went on Section 8 and they came through and did a thorough inspection here and gave us and the landlady written notes. Some of the things we tried to do, like make sure all the windows worked. The landlady sent a crew to fix the windows that were painted shut, put new locks on the windows and several other small jobs.
We filled out paperwork for OACAC to do work on the house to improve the heating and cooling. They are replacing storm windows after rebuilding the two windows in Pretty's bedroom, putting more insulation in the attic and walls, installing new front and back doors and installing a combination smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.
Getting the windows to work and installing locks on them actually already lowered our heating and cooling bills. I can't wait to see how much more money we'll save when the rest of the stuff finally gets finished.

Our electricity here is awful. It took them years to realize the maintenance people didn't have the know-how to do the electrical in the dining room, so we could have a night light outdoors. It was all messed up. Now there is a breaker issue, and the A/C downstairs doesn't work because of it. The guy who was here about it a couple of months ago said he would put in an order for it to be repaired. We've heard nothing, and I can't get a hold of anyone to check on it. It's going to be getting hot, and the kids spend their days downstairs, so they will need it working. They did the windows here several years back. All in one swoop with a big machine that lifted them up and secured them in place. They are just sliding thin glass windows with screens. No locks or anything. I bet your power bill will be less.

@DaddyEvil .........They do open. Sliding type. Section 8 has been good to us. Just some things we can't change that could be better. Being able to talk to someone would be nice. It's so hard to get that done lately. Didn't use to be that way.

@celticeagle I'm afraid talking to a live person from Section 8 is just going to get harder the longer trump is in office.

Yes I know the drill well! Right now I am waiting for the new place to be inspected. It will be a while.
I know what you mean about getting all that over with.
It is a pain but yes, it is the way at the moment.
One day however, a nice off the grid place with water and electric for us all huh Celtic?

Sometimes I wish I had bought a house. But, I wouldn't want that responsibility. I had too many other issues.

No rules here. I own my own home and it's not under any HOA organization or anything like that.

We rent our home as well and luckily for us our landlord hasn't really any hard fast rules apart from no sub letting or smoking in the property which is fair enough I think

Good landlord.
Nice apartment. Well fitted out,
I wouldn't want people smoking in it if it was my property
