Swimming

We were greeted by this pair of swans before we went in the gate.

I went swimming today, just to get rid of the rustiness. It has probably been thirty years since I actively swam, as opposed to just playing a little in the water, or teaching my student. Probably I should go every day to get back into shape. I feel really good this afternoon, although it is a little cold and cloudy and rainy. Where I am swimming is an indoor pool. I can go swim rain or shine. I practiced four different strokes today. I got ready to do a length of the pool with a fifth stroke and both my calves knotted up. I will stretch and warm up more before I do it again. The picture is of the trumpeter swans at the David Traylor Zoo in Emporia, Ks. Obviously, they are swimming, but when not underwater they are very vocal.

When I become an instructor this will be a little side gig, but secretly, it is my fitness program.

Every time I tried to get a picture the swans turned away or ducked under.

It's a nice picture. I hope you enjoyed yourself swimming today. You might want to eat some bananas or pickles before going swimming next time. Both help with leg cramps.

I skipped it today, as I was trying to switch my two freezers around. Failed miserably, getting the upright stuck in the doorway. Bob will have to take the door off for me to succeed. I deliberately ate a banana before I went. I may take a bottle of pickle juice with me. I already know I will have spasms tonight, so I will drink pickle juice at bed time.

@GardenGerty Good! When I used to work in the heat, I'd pour a baby food jar of pickle juice and keep it by my bed because I was sure I'd have muscle cramps sometime after I went to bed. I really hope that works for you, too. Good luck!

It's a good idea to start swimming regularly. It's about the best exercise you could do. Swimming birds always fascinate me as their legs look to be too far towards the back. I keep thinking they're going to topple forward into the water but of course they never do.

They only go forward if they are after something tasty underwater.

I doubt I could swim half the length of the pool anymore. I would more likely sink to the bottom.

Women, and girls tend to float. I was surprised at how well I did.

@LindaOHio I am back and forth about doing it, though. My shoulders hurt. It is very warm today so it makes me feel more that I should do it.

@GardenGerty That's good. And it's good exercise which is easier on your joints.

Well done on going swimming. I would love to do that again. It is over 30 years since I had a proper swim. Sorry your calves knotted up - next time they won't as you will have warmed up properly.

I have a tendency to get those spasms, but I am sure it will improve with more workouts and warm ups.
