Chess and coffee - a good combination

On our travels, we saw this monster chess set at the Eneabba service station in Western Australia. It would be fun to play while sitting having a coffee under the trees. This is the same service station that has the peafowl and you can see a peacock in front of the chess set. Our son in Ireland enjoys chess and plays in competitions from time to time. Vince hasn’t played chess since our son beat him when he was seven. When the son was seven, not Vince obviously.

I asked someone to teach me how to play chess when I was in my thirties... But, all the guy wanted to do was take advantage of my ignorance instead of teaching me. I quit trying to learn the game.

It takes too long for me to be bothered with it. I get bored and it is quite complicated.

@JudyEv You aren't the first person who has told me that. I'm glad I quit trying to learn to play the game.

@DaddyEvil I'm not interested in learning bridge either. That seems pretty complicated too.

@RebeccasFarm This is the Ireland son. When computers were very 'new', Vince got one for a business we were partners in. It had a simple golf game on it and Vin would let the boys play with it. They challenged him to a game once and they kept getting holes-in-one and beating Vince. They had managed to alter the program so they could get holes-in-one. They were only about 8 and 10.

Ha ha !! I liked the part "not Vince obviously" !! The setting with Peacock and the Chess set is Tourist-worthy! I think that the Eneabba Service Station folks should start attracting tourists to visit this place and mint some money!

@JudyEv Yes, we have to factor in what we need and our timelines.

@JudyEv - Same as you and I cannot stay there for hours trying to find out what move is the best. I try to lose in a short time.

I find chess boring too. I lose patience trying to work out the best moves.

I didn't have the patience to learn how to play chess. I'd rather learn how to play a new card game.

I'm the same. I love playing euchre. That would be my favourite. And we're just resurrecting cribbage which is a good game too.
