An Age Old Question: Coffee or Tea?

Canada
May 24, 2025 8:20pm CST
It's an age old question, probably one asked since the beginning of time. Yet, one of the most important questions you could ask. While many prefer coffee, whether you like it black, or with sugar and cream. Others prefer tea over coffee, I know my grandfather did. I'm more of a coffee girl myself, two cream, two sugar and loads of caffeine! Yet, I'm interested in what everyone else prefers. What hot beverage do you prefer? How do you take it, and does it give you comfort like it does me? Which do you prefer to give guests?

I prefer coffee and not a age old question. They do this in studies to see what type of person you are. I am never sure what the conclusion is but, I like being awake, not asleep when some one is talking to me. Only problem is people go I know you heard me, you had a cup of coffee and I go what did you say?

This is so true, I have this rule where people shouldn't speak to me until I had my first cup of coffee. I don't know with me I feel like I can't function without it. So, you are not alone. However, I will have the occasional cup of tea, usually just before bed as I find Tea does the opposite of waking you up.

@crossbones27 Yeah, I don't know either but I suspect there must be a reason. I would imagine most coffee drinkers for example aren't morning people. I know with me, I hate mornings and I drink like 6-10 coffees a day to fully function. Which makes sense because my grandfather, who was a tea drinker was up around 3 am every morning, and took a nap in the middle of the day, but otherwise drank tea and never touched coffee at all. I could be way off though

@indiandevil Yeah, don't get me wrong, tea is great but why they do the studies. Coffee to wake you up tea before bed so you sleep better. I never understand the mystery but apparently scientists find it fascinating Not sure what they have left to learn , but apparently something. I am open ears when they figure it out.

True, in the summer time here I usually have one cup in the morning to wake me up, and drink cold all day, so I wouldn't serve guests a hot beverage in the heat either, unless they specifically ask for it.

Hi Dawn..really it depends on the time of day and my mood. Crazily, I will wake in the night and want a sugary milky hot tea. Coffee for me in the morning rich with cream..but lately I will have to have decaf due to bladder issues.

Totally understandable. With me I got to have a coffee in the morning to be able to function. But will drink tea if I'm out or at night when I'm trying to unwind.

Nice, I can do with out milk, but my coffee has to have sugar, even if just a little bit.

@indiandevil I can definitely do without milk, too. Oddly, I want my hot tea to have a bit of sugar, but iced tea, no sugar at all.

Well let me answer the last part first. We don't like having guests. Actually prefer not to have guests. I'm a coffee person. 25 mugs per day, strength 12, yum a little milk no sugar.

I don’t really drink either, but I drink tea far more than I have ever had coffee. I think since my parents never drank it I never made it a habit of trying it when it actually was available. I have to say I like iced tea more than hot tea.

Yes, some people prefer not to drink either. I totally get that, I'm sure that your guests appreciate that you get it in for them though.

Coffee for me 100%, and just black. We don't even have tea in the house, so if a guest comes and wants tea, they're assed out. lol
