Some People Are So Wasteful

I was brought up in a family of frugal folk. My grandmother was a woman who came from a big family( 10 kids), and they would cut worn sheets in half and sew the opposite sides together and use them up. My mother was brought up during the depression and made things last and found ways to reuse some items. So, I come from a long line of savers. Here is a list of some things I save: * I save the paper bags from some gifts I receive. They can be reused. Even the tissue paper some use to wrap the gift can be saved and reused. * I save spice bottles for reuse. Especially if they are amber or dark in color. Those are the best for storing herbs and spices. Buying herbs and spices that I use a lot in bulk and then using them in these bottles is a really good way to save. * If I know I may be sending out a package soon, I save boxes, bubble wrap, padded envelopes, and such things from retailers to be used again. By opening them carefully, they can be reused. Just open them carefully, and you can put a label over the old one. Save a lot instead of having to buy ones from the post office, which are very expensive nowadays. * The plastic bread bags can get reused, too. And the margarine tubs and squeeze bottles. I learned a great trick for making pancakes. Put the batter in a cleaned-out squeeze bottle from mayonnaise or catsup. It's faster and works great. * Save the twist ties and rubber bands from bread and such. You can use them to organize things in your pantry or office. Saving things and not putting all our waste out into the landfill can save the Earth a bit more. I feel good when I minimize the amount of waste I put out there for the garbage man.

You have good ideas there. I have to be careful with twist ties because of Peter cat. He loves them. Some have wire in their middle. I have caught Peter chewing on the wire. Not a smart idea.

@celticeagle That's great. I won't after I saw Peter chewing that piece down to the wire. Hubby forgot and left the toothpaste tube's cap loose on the bathroom counter instead of putting it back onto the tube. Peter grabbed the cap and tossed it under the fridge.

All good ideas. We have about 20 bags of aluminum cans that need to go to the recycling place.

I follow most of the hints you've written about here. I use margarine tubs to sort like-coloured pieces when I'm doing a jigsaw.
