It is a good thing I took a piece while I was getting dessert

So I had mentioned about bringing the Key Lime pie to the dinner tonight. The pie itself wasn't very big but still had several slices. I gathered my food, and when I went back for dessert, the pie was 3/4 gone. Needless to say I felt I needed to get a slice then and there before it disappeared completely. Of course at the end of the meal it was all gone, so I was glad to get a slice. Did you have take something to a potluck, or dinner party and it was all gone by the end of the night?

All of my mom’s dishes at potlucks. My dad told me last year when we lived in California they had potlucks twice a month. And at the end of the dinner there were leftovers in every pan except for my mom’s. Hers had been scraped clean. I remember that at our last church too, but hadn’t realized it about California. One guy asked my dad if he could pay my mom to cook for him. He very kindly said no. She was way too busy. Key lime pie is SO good!

@snowy22315 Everything she made was just so good. From her Dorito chicken to chicken Kiev to her fruit salad with honey dressing…it was just delicious. Her mother was a master cook too, but my late Nana cooked meals that would kill you with diabetes. Delicious, but deadly.

That happens when I take cookies to a pot luck. Especially homemade ones.

Everybody loves homemade cookies. They had some almond rosewater vanilla vegan cookies there. I wish I could have gotten one to take home.

@sallypup Hedi, my friend made them. She made some kind of cheesecake in a squash. She must have found it in a vegan cookbook. That sounds weird, but was pretty good. I didn't take any of the squash though. I just went for the interior.

I don´t usually go to potlucks. But when Dixie´s son got married years ago, he had to be married at a house in my neighborhood because the people who married people were on a strike. They invited a few friens and the family and I made a lot of hummus to have around. Andres¨ fiancee brought hummus too. When the party was over she told me why was it that my hummus was gone in a jiffy and her was still there. I asked her for the recipe and then explained I boil at home the chickpeas and use twice as much tahine.

Yay, keep em coming back for more. I made hummus at home once or twice..but I don't think mine had tahini. Next time I make it I will try it with it in.

@marguicha I will have to see how much it is. It can be a bit expensive at least here. Between that and the chickpeas it might be cheaper just to buy the hummus.

@snowy22315 Tahini makes the difference. And I boil my chickpeas. I do all that the old way.

@wolfgirl569 Squirrel is supposed to be good, but I haven't had that either. I honestly don't think I would eat rabbit. They are too cute and sweet.

Its easier, and I don't really make vegan foods, not that the pie was..I was thinking though I might go ahead and get a vegan cookbook out of the library and make something here.

@rakski Except it would be hard to find some of the ingredients around here. I might have to go elsewhere to get them, although of course there is Amazon. I can usually find what I need on there.

I think most people love cheesecake. Did you have any kind of topping on it?

@snowy22315 I put various toppings -- I use pie filling -- cherry, blueberry, pineapple...when I use lemon I add lemon to the cheesecake filling and then top it with the rest.

Whenever I take something to a potluck it disappears before anyone gets seconds. I often feel badly that there isn't enough but you prepare for the number that you are expecting to see.

We do not have potluck here, but when I prepare food for guests nothing is left in the serving plates.
