I reckon it's a good time not to be climbing Mt. Etna in Italy. The thing erupted today, spreading spoke and ash into the sky. The plum is high enough now that air travel will probably be disrupted.
I believe this is the tallest active volcano in Italy, located on the island of Sicily. My sister lives well North of Sicily, in Unbria, and our @LadyDuck also lives to the North in Italy, near Switzerland.
Correct me if any of my "facts" are wrong.
The sound of my father's voice saying "Subito!" came into my mind when I watched this footage. "Subito" must mean "immediately"! I had forgotten this word from my early days as a child in Italy.

Yes, that would be risky. If the volcano erupts violently, it might not be worth traveling there before waiting for it to calm down.
Having said that, I actually reside in a nation with a wide variety of volcano types. There is one active in my home province, and another is erupting currently close by. Further south, you'll find an island with a volcano that has also been erupting.

@TheHorse Well, it depends on the volcano's type. There are those where you can observe the lava flowing silently from a distance. However, the majority of them are violent, which makes it unpleasant to watch because it can be dangerous to remain there and observe them.

And here I thought sure you'd want to rush right over there and take a peek inside Etna's throat, pony.
So far, there hasn't been any injuries or property damage from the eruption.

@TheHorse Apparently, Etna always has something going on but not explosive eruptions. It does always have some lava flows and tourists are warned away from those areas.

@DaddyEvil I was in Seattle when St. Helens blew. I saw ash everywhere, but did not witness the eruption.

Now why did Etna get so angry and erupt? About that word the Internet says
The term is derived from Italian and is often used in various contexts, including literature and everyday conversation, to convey abruptness or immediacy.

I hadn't heard that. You have never mentioned your sister on here. You should go visit.

That would be very frightening to be anywhere near an erupting volcano.

I read about this. There has been quite a bit of volcanic activity lately.

It was such a scary video I watched, seeing people running for their lives. The volcano could have erupted right under the feet of those people.
