Campsite bans same sex couples from sharing tents

June 4, 2025 3:01pm CST
Scotland 2025. I just tried to book a campsite for Yvonne and I for Sunday and Monday nights. I phoned the place to ask about the facilities and was quite impressed with what the lady had to say. She said they welcomed Bikers, even better. Then she asked me what our names were and I told her. She said she had to ask as the site did not accept same sex couples sleeping in tents. When I pointed out that many bikers and hill walkers share a tent with someone of the same sex she said" not on this site" She said homosexuality is a sin and it would upset " normal people" I explained that on Biker conventions etc that I had shared a tent with another Biker and that we were not homosexual and she said " that's what you're telling me" So I told her to stick her site where the sun doesn't shine. Yvonne laughed. Now she is calling me Poofyjim. She asked me if I would like to share a tent with Murdo instead of her. She said " imagine if you turned round in your sleep and tried to cuddle Murdo" Oh lol

Sharing a tent doesn’t have to imply anything romantic or even particularly intimate, it’s simply practical. If it’s a girls’ day (or weekend) out and camping is part of the fun, then sharing a tent is just a matter of convenience, safety, and sometimes budget.

Those people have a serious problem. I shared room with girl friends when we were young, but we were absolutely NOT lesbian.

some of the sites we have been to do not allow single men. I only know this as people on the ' tinternet ' ask for site recommendations and that has been mentioned several times.

@Ineeddentures some single men or those travelling alone are considered ' dodgy ' i guess. i can't make much sense of the world today !!!

@Traceyjayne Wow Scotland's hills and countryside are full of single blokes walking and cycling and camping. Mind you, anyone who can cram themselves into some of those lycra cycling shorts must be dodgy. Lol

Why on earth are single men not allowed?

I've shared room with many boys. We were just friends. Sometimes I've shared a room with a stranger and we departed as strangers.

I know. Same here. Sharing a tent with another guy does not make us homosexuals.

@Shivram59 Well when I was in the Army I shared a tent with many guys . Am I gay for doing that?

I agree with you on this one. I do not agree with the gay lifestyle of course, but this would become a dangerous slippery slope. What if I don't like black people? Can I ban them from my site? Not hardly. There's a line here that should never be crossed.

@Ineeddentures Yeah. I mean, when I was in the navy my friend and I would get a hotel for the weekend to hang out and drink off the ship. The room had two beds, and we certainly weren't in there banging in one of them. lol

@porwest What?? Did you not take ladies back to the room I thought that sailors had a girl in every port

Well I wondered about how many other people she could ban based on other things like race etc What I don't get is how she could just assume that guys who share a tent are gay. I called her and the likes of her backwards yokels, I stand by that

Why would the lady judge right away about the genders of people? She's judgmental. And whatever preferences people want is their own decision.

No She is not judging gender Worse than that she is presuming sexuality of people and she thinks guys who share tents are all queer

People really need a better hobby then harassing other people. Love to know how they'd enforce that kind of thing.

I believe that word has gotten around the gay camping community to give the place a sideswerve There are loads of gay guys and girls at sites we usually go to and to be honest it's always good fun I have e been charged up by many a young man and to be honest it's a compliment.

As one of those "backwards yokels" I agree. Homosexuality is a sin. God said that it is, not me.

@Ineeddentures Oh, she assumed that. Okay, gotcha. Yeah--I'm sure my Dad shared tents and the like when he was in the army, too.

The backwards yokels comment was not regarding her opinion of homosexuality. It was her opinion that perfectly normal men sharing a tent had to be homosexuals. Or women come to that Whether homosexuality is a sin is not for me to say. But for her to assume that men sharing a tent are homosexuals is probably a bigger sin. I mean Stacey, when I was in the Army I shared a tent with 2 other soldiers for 10 weeks whilst on exercise. For her to doubt my sexuality was ignorant. Don't you agree?
5 Jun
@xstitcher Aye. When I told her that I had shared tents with other men and I was not a homosexual Her reply was "that's what your telling me" My wife was quite amused by that.

That's also alarming. It's also the order of President Trump that's made into law, trans not allowed in military and in the 2028 LA Olympics.
