A kayaker who was involved in an accident on Monday in Brierfield Alabama when his kayak capsized in the Cahaba River was able to get out of the water by himself when he called 911 for help after he got out of the river and was located in the woods nearby by himself.
Bibb County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) deputies teamed up with the firefighters of Brierfield Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) came to the area of the accident were able to find the kayaker alive and well.
The kayaker was then taken to a nearby staging area where he was reunited with his loved ones.
The rescue team was amazed that the kayaker that was involved in the accident was calm during his crisis time.

That is good that he did so well. Being calm during crisis situations is so important.

I did kayak drills when I was in the army.
It is surprisingly easy to get out of an upside down kayak and most people who kayak are fully trained to do so.
The hardest part is chasing after the kayak when you get out of it as it tends to go downstream all because of the current.

You are right that chasing a kayak is tough due to the currents taking the kayak away.

@Deepizzaguy
I used to leave mine
Get out of the water
And walk downstream and get it when it got stuck on something

Yipes.
Kyaking is not a sport I'd care to take up myself.

It was good that he had his mobile on him to call 911, but these single alone kayaks should not really be allowed to go in rivers by themselves. There should always be a team of kayakers to help each other, as calling 911 places extra pressure on these already overworked resources too.

I am in agreement with you that a kayaker should never go alone on a body of water.
