June Moon: Harvest Moon

Yesterday was long and busy, and I’ll detail the joys and tragedies (I went to a couple of memorials locales yesterday) later. The short of it is I’m home, mainly because the weather may be pesky. I had to deal with a 15-minute deluge in West Virginia yesterday afternoon with puddles rising quickly. As I said to someone, I can dodge storms here for free. I can’t dodge another “moon” song for you, though, so here it is. Harvest Moon - Neil Young When this album came out a lot of people were calling it a “sequel” to Neil Young’s 1972 classic Harvest album. I wouldn’t give it that….more like an album “in the same vein” as Harvest. Yes, you could say that the man who was “searching for a heart of gold” in ‘72 found it in this song. The definite connection between the two album is personnel: Ben Keith played steel guitar on both albums, and Linda Ronstadt sang backup on both “Heart of Gold” and this song. Of course, the music style is similar. There’s one thing that no one can deny about Neil Young: if you don’t like this album, just wait until the next one, because he’ll change music styles completely on you. And, honestly, that’s one of the things I appreciate about Young: the same man who gave us the techno “Sample and Hold” gave us the rockabilly “Wonderin’.” It’s not fair to say this album was “another” Harvest.
