To Put it Into Perspective

As of today, June 6th, there are over 160 wildfires burning here in Canada.
There has been over 1.56 million acres-imagine that, burned as a result. 40% of our country is forested. Many of these wildfires were sparked from lightening and fueled by winds and very dry conditions.
Imagine just for minute, if you will, almost HALF of your country burning up.
Then imagine how you would feel if you read over and over and over how awful it is that there is smoke everywhere from the Canadian wildfires. Our air quality here is poor today. But I have empathy, and I will not complain over poor air quality caused by the wildfires when I know that fellow Canadians must be sick realizing that they have no home or property to return to, no stores, no towns, no roads-nothing.
Just food for thought to have a little empathy and to put things into perspective.
How many generations will it take for those forests to regrow. How many years will it take for the wildlife, lost either by the fire or by fleeing their area for safety will it take for these animals to return. The bears, the moose, the elk and the little ones too, the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and the list goes on.
And then take into consideration the homes and properties lost. The residents evacuated hundreds and in some cases, thousands of miles, to safety. And although they are safe, they realize that they may not have anything to return to.

when you live in a tiny country like Scotland it's actually really difficult to get an idea of how big an area of 1.56 million acres is.
But it is easier to understand the rest of what you have outlined.
Recovery I have no idea how long it would take, but what if it happens again?
I feel really sorry for everyone, for all the wild life etc etc.
Ruination everywhere and destruction on a level one would hope that one would never encounter.

Yet people are still in denial about global warming..
How much damage has to be done before the world gets wise to this?
We need to stop the biggest polluters now - but no chance of that when the world has clowns like Trump in control who only cares about his own country making money and doesn't give a expletive about the climate.
We have a clown in the UK who could get into power who calls the climate target " net stupid zero"
With attitudes like that we are all dommed

@Ineeddentures I do not know how people can be in denial when they see the evidence of the severity of the temperatures, and the storms, and the wildfires.

Me neither, but in denial they really are or they would Co-operate properly and fully in a bid to reduce emissions quickly
But they don't - America,Russia, India, China
And then the jokers who cut the rain forest down
These peoplle are nuts
So people in countries like the UK who pay a premium to reduce emissions think why should we as we only produce 1% of them

I have to admit that I am surprised that it's not happening in California. Over the last 2 decades wild fires have become overly bad in California as well as Canada. I just pray the Great Spirit will provide a good dose of rain to help put them out.
I pray you and yours are in no danger

You have the right attitude. I can completely agree with you, the Great Spirit is our best hope for a good dose of rainfall to the areas burning and also to the rest of our world so that they do not burn.
We are in a city and there isn't enough forest near us to cause us danger, but thank you.

A lot of Forest Fires worldwide are due to increasing human habitation and activity.
Plus warming of many places on Earth.
While I think steps are being taken in many countries as well as Canada as well, it would take a much bigger effort.
Forest Fires not only affect the plants but the animals as well.

It always make me sad when I read about wildfires not just for the people in danger but nature and wildlife

I know how you feel. I hope I am not on your list as a complainer, Julia
I know I have said in all of my yakking about the smoke and air, that I truly did hurt for those who have lost so much and lives lost as well. It’s just what you said, a combination of very dry weather and high drying winds, and there is a lot of woods and forest to feed the fires. And what is happening there with all the fires can happen anywhere. We’ve had some whopper field fires the last few years.

No, I wasn't referring to you, I don't take you as a complainer.
I know that you are super busy with your son and running up to the hospital these days.
We all have to try our hardest to slow global warming, this could be anyone's country burning out of control.

I find it amazing that some people still don’t think global warming is real!

I hear news about wildfires occasionally. That is sad but it seems that there is not much we can do except to do our parts to slow global warming.

It is awful. The US West also has to deal with wildfires every year. Those in California were particularly brutal.

I remember last year they had bad wildfires.
A Canadian water bomber was grounded after damage from a drone, here they banned those since it is usually just someone trying to capture that one perfect picture of the ordeal to make a little money on. It isn't worth it when you consider when a water bomber is grounded it isn't helping with the cause.
And here I thought that CA was just beaches.

I pray for all that have lost homes and other structures and the poor animals.

I know, no homes to return to, all of the items which made up their lives to the time of the evacuation, gone and the poor animals that perish or have to flee to other areas.
I love the country that I live in, the vastness of it, the cities, the rural areas and the bushland, and it hurts that almost half of it is either burned or burning.
