We Can't Back Down

One of our fundamental rights as Americans is the right to speak out. Coming together to peacefully protest is a way to challenge those with more power. We can't back down. All Trump wants is to intimidate the protestors. The first time we let something overtake us and not fight back we lose ourselves as well as our freedom. We have to fight for what we believe in. Even California Governor Gavin Newsom said that we need these protests, but they have to be peaceful.

If 2020 is anything to go by, we've proven that we're not capable of being peaceful. And, even if we are, someone's going to find fault with it.

@TheHorse Yes, then, too. but 2020 had some wild riots as well. Especially when Black Lives matter formed.

@kaylachan .......I hope they will be more peaceful this time around. All is lost if they aren't.

I think sometimes it suits one side or the other when protests do not remain peaceful. We do have to fight for what we believe in. Of that there is no doubt

The LAPD had it handled. Trump didn't need to do what he did.

I am wondering if I would be bold enough to be part of an armed "old guy melitia" to defend Democracy. I have already kissed several pretty girls and eaten a lot of Tom Kha Gai. I have lived a good life.

@TheHorse You would be a great freedom fighter. And most likely get to kiss many more pretty girls

It's so weird having the "president" try to inflame things rather than calm them.

@celticeagle I am OK with criminals being arrested and prosecuted. But Trump is still out there. It is so odd.

I am glad we have a good Governor here right now. He is patient and well-spoken. What Trump is trying to do here is a disgrace. I believe an Australian journalist was actually SHOT in LA in the past couple of days. Fortunately, I think it was a rubber bullet, and she will be OK.

I hope so. This is getting way out of hand. And judges can't do a thing. It's madness. I will stay indoors.

@celticeagle The madness has not reached where I live. Mexican, Asian, black, white, Indian, and etc. people get along here and go about their business. I don't know what would happen if Trump sent his troops in here in quiet suburban California.

Yes, using a act in the wrong way. He had no right and the California didn't ask for his help.

I believe he did. And I believe he may have done so without consulting California's Governor before doing so.

We're a democratic country. People are free to dramatize their rights to assemble and voice their dissatisfaction or ill feelings about the government.

I just saw that church folks are standing up in the LA lines, calling for the ICE folks to desist and stop.

Yes, and the LAPD had it handled. Then Trump butted in and sent in the guard. The governor said in an interview that there needed to be these protests, but they need to remain peaceful.

Peaceful protests are one thing but what is going on in LA is something else all together.

Yes, but the LAPD had it handled and down to just a few blocks until Trump sent in the guard and things got nasty.

what I view are people objecting to the actions of ICE and showing solidarity with their neighbours. Trump has always hated Hispanics... go back to when his Daddy was building in Coney Island... that they were so stupid as to vote for him... well...
