Women Shouldn't Say These Things

I was reading an article about phrases that women use that undermine their own power. Words really are powerful and we should choose them carefully. Psychologists don't like women using these particular phrases: Sorry, but. . . It's okay to have an opinion or a need. You don't have to apologize all the time I'm just. . . as in "just a stay at home mom" or "just a secretary" Don't diminish yourself by saying "just" "I’m probably overreacting, but... your response could very well be 100% reasonable. Why gaslight yourself? "It’s not a big deal." Sometimes it really is a big deal. Don't mimimize your feelings or the effect of something "I could be wrong, but…" Why start out your sentence already giving other people reasons to shoot you down? "You probably already know this..." Just tell them. Why assume they already know it? I'm guilty of using all of those phrases at some point or another. There were maybe 7 more phrases mentioned in the article. Women really are their own worst cheerleaders.

I’d probably still use “you probably already know this” because if it’s something obvious I’m about to say, I don’t want them to feel like I think they are dumb. Otherwise, I would love to cut the others out of my vocabulary. Women have been beaten down so long they seem to feel like they need to couch their words. I know I do.

Yes, I've used those phrases too. Man may need a woman; but I definitely need a man. I don't like being alone; and I miss MALE companionship. I need a kindly old gentleman to keep me company!

Great points you've made here. Women probably all say these things without even thinking.

Good points you have made it out, if you are confident enough then these words won't come out.

I think many of these phrases are not just limited to women, but most of them, either way, do seem to send a signal of a lack of confidence. Everyone should avoid them, man or woman.
