Friday Night Food.

June 13, 2025 2:54pm CST
Friday Night Food. Tried something a bit different tonite or tonight which ever suits you is fine with me. Used a cheaper cut of meat so it was a bit of a risk but I cooked it perfectly so I was worrying about nothing So apart from the Steak which was rubbed with soy sauce, salt and pepper and oil , We had Crinkle Cut Chips Onions Peppers Peas Broccoli Kale And a nice jou I fashioned from all the ovely juices and some beef stock. Oh and some Lard in the jou also because it makes stuff taste good. I wish I could make it look pretty on a plate What are you having/ had/ wish to have?

It was a great dinner and this looks pretty to me. I made Indian pakora for dinner, potatoes and onion pakora.

@Ineeddentures - I made from scratch, but some ready made mix are not bad. I also use all the time the same plates, hoping that they break.

@Ineeddentures Use them, I have donated so many nice things before moving and I had never used them because I was scared I would break them.

@LadyDuck We got a really expensive complete service of Royal Thai from my Mother in 1997. I saw them in the upmarket place she bought them. I was scared we would break them so they have never been used.

Vince has been cooking his steak a bit differently lately and it's been really good.

@Ineeddentures He lets it get to room temperature first, salts it a little, cooks it x minutes each side (about 4-6 I think) without turning then lets it 'rest' before serving. He's only starte doing this recently but the steak has been very tender each time. We often buy a big roast as they're often on special then maybe freeze some as steaks or whatever.

@Ineeddentures I know what you mean. It is difficult to buy good tasting buns here also. I found some about a month ago and my husband couldn't believe how delicious they were, and they smelt so fresh. But they were made with white flour, and I prefer whole wheat. It took me a couple of weeks but I found the same company makes smaller buns, which are actually a perfect size, and with whole wheat flour. Tonight we are ordering in a calzone for supper. They make them so very large, that I will only order 1 and we will split it. It will be plenty and there will likely be some left over.

It was too much But We did the same again tonight Buns, we cannot get decent buns here like we got years ago. Buns here now spoil a good sandwich

@Juliaacv What will be I size this gigantic Calzpne? One place here does a kebab on a huge Naan Bread and nobody I know has ever eaten a whole one Yvonne will not let me buy one because she knows I would eat it all just to prove I could. Do you get Munchy Boxes from take aways there?

@LindaOHio It's strange that we have had steak twice in two days. Used to be like that with Chicken and sometimes have it a few times in a week. Would you like to have a Steak now?

I have never used lard, but I have heard it's better than butter or oil. They sell it here, of course. Maybe I should try it once just for good measure out of pure curiosity. Anyway, glad to hear your steaks turned out well.

@Ineeddentures ::Looks around::: I am guilty of sometimes using oil for a steak, but hopes the fact that he uses butter more often than not saves his reputation at least a smidgen.

@porwest I must look around too. I sprayed Friday nights with oil to help my seasoning rub Light vegetable oil Not good

Lard or Beef Dripping Either or Far better than butter, and another planet better than oil - no self respecting steak lover or chip lover or heart attack food lover uses oil lol
