An unexpected gift, much appreciated.

I have a neighbor who likes to order things. She doesn't pay much attention to prices or look for bargains, she buys what she likes and wants. She has shared with me before with fresh foods when she buys too many to be eaten before they are too ripe, usually fresh fruit, which she loves. She ordered 2 huge boxes of fresh peaches from a truck that delivers them to our area in the summers. They take orders and then the orchard delivers them. Today, she came over with a huge box of them, she ate her way through the first box and decided she would take a road trip, and could I use these? Um...yes! They were just perfectly ripe. There is a wonderfully aromatic peach cobbler in the oven right now. There are two small containers of prepped peaches in the freezer for ice cream at some point, and I made a pie and froze it, to be baked later. She does this spur of the moment stuff a lot. Last time she gave me a lot of fruit, I made her a big pie to bake when she got home. She told me she may be gone awhile, so not to make her anything this time... We are going to have cobbler after a bit. The house smells so yummy good. I was going to wait and take a picture of it, but it's still in the oven...a sinful late snack!

That is so nice of your friend to give you what she can't use/doesn't need. And good of you too to make her a pie when it suits.

I took a big portion of it over to Dale, my very elderly neighbor who can’t hardly see. I took him some whipped cream to put on it. He absolutely loves fruit pies and cobbler, he was so happy. He has so few things to smile about so it’s always good to see him smile.

@MarieCoyle That's a lovely thing to do. Later today I'm going to make soup for our elderly friends just up the road. She had a fall and is taking a while to get over it.

@JudyEv Oh, homemade soup is always a good thing to take when someone needs a boost. I hope she gets better soon.

Even though she has a problem with buying too much, she does share with the different neighbors, so at least it doesn't go to waste. And yes, it is very kind of her.

@MarieCoyle I have never frozen a pie. You baked it then froze it? In aluminum foil?

@sallypup I make a fruit pie with the usual double crust, unbaked. I put it in the freezer on a cookie sheet for a few hours until it’s frozen solid. Then I put it in two ziplock bags, one inside the other. Sometimes I make more than just one, and if they are frozen solid I stack them. Then I can take one out and bake it when we want one.

You're lucky to have such a generous neighbor. I have such neighbors, too. They give food whenever they have parties, birthdays, or during Christmas. Not only that, they also help me, if needed. One time, I locked myself out of my apartment. They all came to help until I was able to get in. May I have some of the pie?

They really are good, we are enjoying them. She does this at times, just buys way too much. Her daughter told me she has always done that. I do try to even the score a bit by baking for her when she shares, but not this time, she said, since she is going to be gone for awhile traveling.
