Not His Numbers

I am not a gambler.
Yesterday while at the checkout at the grocery store I noticed a sign that read $30 million, and asked for a ticket. They are only $5 so why not?
My own Dad has passed, so this morning I passed the ticket to my husband and wished him a Happy Father's Day. He laughed, as he knows that I have always referred to those weekly lottery draws as a poor man's tax-something that they think that they 'have to have', cannot afford, and do not need.
He laughed after he checked it on the website as only 1 number matched.
The numbers, all except the 05, were not winning numbers. But who needs such an excessive amount of money anyways? Our first million has our blood, sweat and tears on it, and our next will also. Where do you stand on lottery draws?

I only buy a ticket to something or other, if I have cash in my pocket, that I don't have an immediate need for. It is rare that I have cash, as most of my money is on cards.

I started to buy a ticket once when I was working at a convenience store. I pulled a dollar out of my pocket and put it on the counter and tore off a ticket as a man walked in the door and asked for a ticket... I handed him the one I'd torn off for me and reached for the next one... The man yelled, "I won $500!" I looked at his ticket, and sure enough, he'd won... I put my dollar back in my pocket.

@DaddyEvil The area that we grew up in and lived for most of our lives, was small and rural, and most were either your relatives or your neighbours.

@Juliaacv I've never personally known anyone who won a lottery... I can't afford to throw away money like that.

We play but don't expect to win. It's for fun and exciting when we do get a little back

I was supporting the hospital by playing their lottery, which is around $100, but there was disturbing information on the news regarding over-paid hospital administration and misuse of some of the donation funds, so I stopped supporting their bad habit.

I don't do them
Or scratch cards
Or postcode lottery
None of them
Pains me when I see people spending so much on trying to win their way to happiness and then watching as they say that they can't afford to heat homes or feed their kids

@Ineeddentures Nobody's definitions would be identical.
But basic needs, health and the health of our loved ones, those are what I would say cannot be bought but would bring me true happiness.
Some people go through life with blinders on, thinking that having this material item or that one, is true happiness, and it may well be for them. I pity them, as relationships, love and tight bonds are true happiness to me.

Well I think some people probably could buy what they think true happiness is.
My idea of happiness might not be the same as the next guy

I have been playing the same numbers since 1989. I would like to win big and give a huge amount to St. Jude's and our local Humane Society, Dog Shelter, library, etc. The most I've ever won was $70.

I buy lottery tickets occasionally. In fact, I have won three times. Not the big prize though.
