Going bananas

Growing up we did not often have snacks. We also did not get breakfast cereal often. Mom did not think it was nutritious and eggs and toast were cheaper. I went to bed and could not sleep last night. Eventually I got up and had a snack. I had a bowl of cinnamon protein cheerios with a banana sliced in it. On the rare occasions we had cereal growing up I found it weird that mom would slice a banana into a bowl of cereal. With lots of sugar, as well. I do not sweeten my cereal, but at 11:15 last night that banana on cheerios with lowfat milk certainly was a tasty treat.

We had cereal growing up. I still enjoy it.

Pretty likes cereals and buys whatever kind she wants... I used to eat Cheerios for breakfast when she was little but can't eat it anymore. It doesn't agree with my system.

@wolfgirl569 We don't normally eat cereal with fruit in it. I'll eat bananas with my breakfast but not mixed in it.

We didn't have cereal either. We might have had porridge from time to time.

Occasionally oatmeal, or corn meal mush.

We rarely got cereals, either. Mom preferred us to eat eggs, bacon and toast or biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Once in a while she'd try to get us to eat cooked oatmeal. One of my older brothers would mix up peanut butter and white syrup for breakfast. Mom said he was making candy but it was filling... Mom did buy snacks for us or made snacks for when we got home from school. We'd get some cookies, a slice of cake or fruit to "hold us over" until supper. Pretty and I have been going in between 10 pm and 2 am and fixing something to eat. That's our supper.

Breakfast was one egg, one slice of bacon, two pieces of toast and 4 oz. orange juice. I think we had a cake every weekend. Snacks would be carrots, celery or apples mostly. Fresh fruit if grandparents had picked from their place and brought it.

@GardenGerty Mom took breakfast orders. We raised our own chickens, cows and pigs and dad butchered them... We always had plenty of meat and eggs. My breakfast was usually 2 eggs fried hard... I wouldn't eat them if there was any bit still runny and bacon. Mom cooked a big plate of bacon and left it on the table. We ate as much as we wanted. Sometimes I'd eat an apple with the eggs and bacon. We had apples, plums, cherries, grapes and different types of berries growing on our farm. Whatever was in season was on the table if we wanted it.

@DaddyEvil Sounds like breakfast at grandma's house. Any kind of jelly or preserve you could imagine, homemade biscuits, oatmeal, bacon, red eye gravy, eggs. No bananas, they do not grow in Oklahoma.

@GardenGerty I'm not a big cereal fan.

I don't think it's weird to slice a banana and put it in cereal for breakfast. But I would rather have it between 2 slices of thick fluffy white bread covered with proper block butter that took a lot of skill and time to spread And eggs on toast too.

Yummy eggs on toast, and real butter.

@GardenGerty It really has to be real butter. These substitutes and alternatives just don't float my boat at all and I have tried loads of them.
