I am tired of so many phone apps.

It's reached the ridiculous state. When apps first started, most of us had things like facebook, messenger, a weather app, and a few others. But now there are apps for everything. Want to save money at grocery store number one? Well, you can't unless you download an app and/or clip digital coupons. I find this very unfair. There are many people who still have just basic flip phones. They don't have apps. And (yes, it's true) there are people out there who do not have the internet at all. Most are very elderly like my 90-year-old neighbor, and they don't use the internet, or even understand it.
Too many apps slow down your phone. I even found an article that people are suffering from something called ''app fatigue'' and are realizing they do not need, or want, all of that stuff on their phone. The more that's on there, the easier in some cases it is to be hacked...or so I read, anyway.
I don't want an app for everywhere I go. I have what I need and have deleted several I don't use. The more that's there, the more trouble they can be, and I am tired of apps. One friend read on a sign at Arby's that certain sandwiches were 2 for $5 that day. She decided to go get 2 for lunch. She went inside to make her purchase. BUT, she couldn't get the special price, because she wouldn't download the app and didn't want to, so she left. This isn't fair to those who either can't, or won't, or don't have a smartphone or the ability to use one.
You want a bargain? Make sure you have that smartphone and that app installed!
No internet for you? Too bad, no bargains for you! This doesn't seem fair to those people who don't have the internet.
Do you use apps for everything? I know fast food pretty much demands apps, but I don't eat fast food, so I am not missing anything by not downloading their apps.

I have one app that I can watch my grandson play in his baseball games, which is nice. One of the few apps I kept.

No I don't. I have an app that helps me identify birdsongs, and one that shows the constellations.
Other than that I totally agree with you. It is very unfair, and it's almost got to the point where you need a separate device just to carry all the apps for this and that.

That's what Pretty does... She has one phone that she puts apps on and one phone that she actually uses.

@Fleura She turns on my internet for that spare phone to use since I always have my phone with me and she only carries that one when we leave the house.

@DaddyEvil Apart from being one more thing to have to remember, that sounds like a good plan!

They all want your info, don’t they. We all know what Temu does with their app. I have two survey apps that also pay for receipts, my ESPN app
, a grocery store app so I can order groceries online, and the Kindle app. I don’t want my phone to be as slow as molasses.

@MarieCoyle I need to download that weather app because it’s just a good idea. Thanks for the reminder.

I have a news app, weather app, the usual few we most have. A few others as well, but not a gazillion like so many do. I don't want my phone overloaded or hacked into due to a silly fast food app or the Temu things, etc.

The weather app I use always has very timely warnings about tornadoes and high winds, it's almost always very accurate. We need that one!

It’s really frustrating when basic services, discounts, or information are locked behind an app or digital wall, especially for people who don't own smartphones, aren't tech-savvy, or simply don't want one more app tracking their every move.
But it seems that we have to keep up with all these

Some people cannot, I know I have 2 neighbor guys who simply can't manage internet, they are very elderly. So no bargains for them if they need an app,.

I fail to understand why a sale cannot be a plain, old fashioned sale. I don’t want my phone scanned everywhere to save a little money.

I don’t download any at all. I have the few I need and that’s enough.

I have too many apps the majority of which I don't use. I think I should purge.

I love my big stainless steel can, so much better than the old plastic ones. I didn't want to spend that much on one, but my oldest son showed up one day with a new one for me a few years back. Love it.

Good idea, Snowy. Do you need a huge trash can for that purge, or?

Pretty has one phone just for apps and one phone that she uses to make calls through the internet with... I only added three apps to my phone; WhatsApp, Kindle and Notepad Free... For a while, Pretty kept putting gaming apps on my phone and I kept deleting them. I told her if she wants apps, put them on her phones because I don't need or want them.
When I was still at Walmart, there were over one million apps for Android and the same for iPhones. Who knows how many more there are now.
BTW, even flip phones/dumbphones have internet. Whether people want it or not, you can't refuse to have it on your phone now. You don't have to use it but it's there. (Many older adults have someone "waste" the internet on their phone each month so they don't have to deal with it. I used to do that for some older adults when I was still at Walmart. I'd open a video and let it play until their internet ran out.
)

@MarieCoyle Whether they want it or not, they've got it... I hope somebody else is helping them like I did now.
One person I used to help called me. I don't know how they got my phone number but they wanted me to help them pick out a new phone. I told them I wasn't doing that anymore and hoped they found someone else to help them...

Often people need a bit of guidance when buying a new phone, it's good that they offered that service.

Yes, you are correct. But most of these elderly people just don't even want internet or to use it. Even with help, many of them are just overwhelmed by it all.
I bet you were a blessing to a lot of those people and helped them with their phone needs.

The more info and access people load on to their phone, the more they are on them....I use my phone for talk and text and yes, online if needed (that's what the laptop is for) but I don't want to spend my life on the phone!

I like the weather warnings a lot, with tornadoes and living in a high wind area, it's very helpful.

i also don't find it fair. lidl store here on purpose puts certain things on sale but only if you have an app. i downloaded it but i don't want to go there if i don't need something really important. yes, so much out there and not like a blackmail of this sort.

It is not fair to not offer the same discount to all, just because they don't have a smartphone. Some people just don't, and they never will.

I can relate to that issue, and people keep launching new apps on regular basis. They constitute nuisance on the smartphone.
