That is not as silly as it sounds. His bride's family has a Peruvian mother and grandmother. The Pope lived in Peru for many years The Pope has ties to the church where they are being married, which in in Chicago the Pope's hometown. It is famous within Catholic circles. We suspect even if he doesn't come he might send a bishop or at least send a blessing or maybe a video message. Bride has said if the Pope comes, her grandmother will be walking on air.

What an honour even to be known by this fabulous Pope. I went to high school with a girl who entered the convent, and she did work in Peru, and she also knows the Pope. I think that this Pope is modern enough that he will be able to reach many generations finally.

They don't know him per se, but just know he has ties to their church, and being that there will be Peruvian people there, might capture his interest. Even say he sent a blessing in his own handwriting, it would be cool.

@Juliaacv Ohh, how small minded of them! At one point I got interested in a baby from China, until I realized all the red tape that was involved. I am not sure what my marital status was at that time.

@snowy22315 That would be very cool. I may or may not have told you this but, many years ago when we were considering adoption, my Aunt, who was a missionary nun in Peru, offered to bring us back a baby from there. We considered it, but my in-laws were very negative towards our thoughts of adoption, let alone a child that would not have blonde hair and blue eyes.

Wow imagine if he showed up. That sounds exciting and hopefully they'll get a response one way or the other.

Yes, I think the church has a bishop in residence, so that might be what they get

@Marilynda1225 Next September..can't wait! They have alot of things lined up already, and are going to send out save the date cards this fall Really glad they are doing this, because they were initially talking about a courthouse wedding. Their reception will be in Al Capone's hide out house!

He honestly seems like the kind of “regular guy” who’d show up. I think that’s the Chicago mentality. For the bad, violent rap it gets (rightfully so) in some neighborhoods, most of the neighborhoods in Chicago were just that: neighborhoods, where everyone knew everyone and looked out for everyone. I know the White Sox have been doing better since he became pope.

Yeah, wouldn't it be awesome? Kind of like the President (Trump excepted) walking amongst crowds on the beach or something.

Wouldn't that be a coup? I can imagine how the grandmother would feel.

Ooh Don't mention the Pope and Peru together. I think the pope would rather have that Peru never happened It has.caused a bit of controversy

Just now
That would be truly something special—even imagining the Pope making time in his incredibly full schedule to attend a wedding like this is a lovely thought. Realistically, he’s likely to be pulled in so many directions, especially with the weight of his global responsibilities. But even so, the fact that there are meaningful connections—through the bride’s Peruvian heritage, the church’s history, and its standing in Catholic circles—adds a beautiful layer of possibility. And hey, even the slimmest chance still holds hope. If not his physical presence, maybe a blessing or a video message could still find its way to the ceremony. Either way, the love and heritage being honored will make the day unforgettable.
