Do you pass the hat around relatives?

When you need financial help badly and don't have any other options, do you pass the hat around your relatives? A cousin of mine did this. I was quite shocked because I never did that. I mean, I asked for help from relatives I am close to, but I do not oblige every relative, even those distant from me, to do so. I want to help, too, but I myself need some financial assistance for the surgery of my son. What would you do in this case?

We never do that. If we have some extra money, we give. If we don't, we're very sorry.

It's not voluntary. It is forced. Like, relatives have to come up with a certain amount. I was thinking that when I had financial problems, they never helped us out, but now that they are, they're obligating us all to give. I would have given whatever I had if it had been done properly, but they were demanding.

@Jenaisle That is bad. They should not force you. It is not an obligation. Why are they demanding? Do you owe them something?

@Jenaisle Financial problem always lead to family misunderstanding. There's a saying thst blood is thicker rhan water. But family feud is unavoidable.

I have never seen anyone do this, although many people ask for money. What do I do? Nothing. My small contribution won't ever solve the reason someone feels the need to ask for money, and therefore it does not truly help. No one gets a penny from me. I'll give advice. But never money.

I see. Good advice is valuable more than money.

I am been lucky enough not to have got into that situation so far. I helped my niece when she needed, but it was for a short time.

We are blessed that we have not got into that kind of situation. Me and my immediate family, we help each other but not to the extent of other relatives. Just our siblings on both sides

That's understandable. I have done that too, but demanding that everyone should give, despite their own financial problems, is not right.

We borrowed money from my in-laws when we bought a house; but we would never ask anyone else for money.

Yes, I think so too. I don't even know their specific names.

That isn't right to me. And I would not give if I was in your place. You have problems to take care of yourself

Right, I didn't know you would also disapprove of it.
