what gets your retired rump up in the morning?

We don't have family near us. Hubby would love umpteen dozen grandkids but nope there.
He has a very active mind. He has tried to get help running a 3-D printer. Those printers are very visual oriented. He can't get reiliable help. He writes. He has found a church and has preached quite a few sermons. He would love to do more with Oregon state University but that's a four hour train ride South- there are computer and robotic types there that really feel hubby's vibes.
Hubby has been so ill. He used to bake bread and pizza dough etc. These days I have been the supper maker. He says he will start helping more. I admit that would be a nice break for me. We washed and bagged cherries for the freezer tonight. He made a couple of wooden garden boxes here but no longer has the zip to do larger projects though he has quite a few tools in the shed. He promised to help me clean out a cupboard tomorrow- whoopie! (The kitchen cupboards here are either too low or too high.)
Tomorrow or the day after the painter guys will start pressure washing the outside of the house. That will be the start of painting this house.

@Ineeddentures You are a good guy. No way would I do that to my hubby. I would never hear the end of that trick.

It's easier to just do it than to debate a debate I cannot win
So I let her think I am defeated.
I'm not really
Because I get up and make her coffee before she does anything else

I believe in the cliched saying - have been there and done that which means if I canot do it now so be it. That is my secret of enjoying a day without doing much. Sitting in my favourite corner I reminisce on all the projects that I handled including designing and seeing to the construction of Solitaire where we retired.

I hope that your husband feel good soon and can be more helpful. He sounds like a man with many talents. I am sure that he would have been a great grandfather, having so much to teach his grandkids.

I am sorry he has been so sick. I know how that is, and the worry that goes with it when it happens to someone we love. It's hard for the sick person, and hard for the care-person.
With all that has happened with the son, I have had to learn to simplify some things. And I know it all doesn't get done in a day like I want it to--at least, not always. I try to be flexible with his needs and the doctor's visits and transfusions, etc. and never having the exact same time for things.
I hope things start going smoother for both of you.

Thanks @MarieCoyle Thanks. He needs to find projects or he will go nuts. He just started talking about how to clean that deep, low cupboard. He has an engineering mind. I hope your son's situation eases.

My son loves to work on computers, etc-anything electronic. Before the wreck, he was a computer engineer. He misses it terribly, but he unfortunately is not well enough to work. His mind is like your husband's, always thinking on things to do or fix better than they are now. His only problem is, now he isn't well enough to do much.
Thank you so much. I hope your fellow feels better and better, very soon!
