So We Did a Thing....Unexpectedly!

Yesterday afternoon was our designated day for errands in the town over from us, McComb. We had several things on the list, but first we went for a late lunch at the Golden Corral.
Next stop was Rainbow Dodge and Jeep. We have been talking about replacing my van since the sensor that we replaced earlier this month has already gone out again which possibly means something bigger is going out. Either way, we are also having trouble with the lights, which we had with the last Kia and why we traded it in. I have been looking online to see what I wanted to get next. I didn't want another Kia since major problems with the last two, and was leaning toward a Jeep Cherokee or Dodge Durango. Since one dealer in McComb had both, we decided to go look them over and possibly test drive them both to help make the decision.
Shopping at the end of the month is a great time to make great deals and help out with that monthly quota. Our salesman was very nice, polite and helpful. I told him what we wanted to do and he got the keys to one of each of the vehicles we were looking at on the lot. We drove the Durango first and after coming back I eliminated the Jeep because I didn't really need a 4 wheel drive and there was more interior room in the Durango. Of course, the salesman made the push to seal the deal "today." I told him he could work up a price for me and call us this afternoon, but we had other business to take care of. We did have to go inside to get some basic information done. At this time we me the owner of the business. This was one crazy dude and you could not help but to LIKE him!
He came back with a price for us in just five minutes. I looked at it and told him I needed more on my trade in. He went back and adjusted the price and brought it back to me. We had started with a couple thousand off sticker price, but I wanted more. So, I mentioned another Durango, same model, that I had viewed online. I told him I would like to compare the options on both because that one was a couple thousand $'s cheaper. He asked me which dealer had it and I told him and showed him on my cell phone. He said BRB and came back with the same price as the other dealer. I told them I would give them the opportunity to finance if they could beat my credit union's interest rate. They stated that they were sure that they could. We got to the finance office (all of this moved quickly, no BS and wasting time) and I asked about the interest rate. I said hold on, I think our credit union is lower and pulled it up on phone. Yep. So, I told finance guy that I would do a pre-approval online when I got home. He said, "WAIT, what if I can match it?" I said that would be great. Done deal!
This was the best experience we have ever had in purchasing a new car. This dealer was ready to deal. The owner even came back to me before we went to the finance/accounting office with another $700 off. I absolutely hate most dealers and the back and forth BS. It usually gets to the point of my husband getting embarrassed by something I say back to them.
When we left, the salesman told me to friend him on Facebook and if I every have a problem or a question, to let him know.
After finishing up there we headed to Aldi's to get some groceries. And then a stop at Arby's to pick up dinner on the way home. It was getting dark early due to a thunderstorm that moved through and more to come.
This afternoon we will go pick up the new ride. They are detailing it this morning. I have to go clean my car out now. Ugg! But I think I can handle it!!

@Ineeddentures It is fine this morning! Thanks for asking. That allergy pill gave me a good night's sleep too! I had a hard time waking up this morning.

@kareng You're welcome.
We had good luck with the two Dodge Daytonas we had and have had really good luck with the two Buick LaSabres that we've had. (We still have the second LaSabre.)

@DaddyEvil My mom had a LaSabre and had no trouble with it until she let my brother borrow it. Let's just say that after a $4500 + repair bill the car still had troubles.

@kareng The salesman I had when I bought my truck was good. I simply told him what had to happen and he made it work. I had already looked up my trade in value before going in.

Coming from you, that is quite a big compliment!! Thank you! I've always hated dealing with car salesman. This one was quite out of the norm and it appeared that the owner there made all the final calls and not a Supervisor. It was a great experience and fun too!

@kareng Either you got a great deal or the salesman was REALLY good at making you think so. lol. Salesmen can be sneaky. I know all too well. I was one. lol
That aside, to me it sounds like you did all the right things. Price shopped and compared interest rates and were able to get what you wanted. I think you won, all things aside.

@porwest I don't think it was the salesman at all. The owner did all the price negotiation. I hate how some make you negotiate with the salesman and then he goes and sits with the manager or supervisor for 15-20-30 minutes and then comes out with not much of a budge and you start all over again. Such a waste of time for all!! This guy was cut and dry, just like it should be!! And I love it ...so far!! I'm happy and that is what matters in the end.

Fingers crossed. I love it. I did not like the minivan that my husband mostly chose on the last go round. We were shopping once again with something wrong with present car and wanted to replace it quickly. We had a vacation coming up with one of our daughter's family and needed something with 7 seats. So he backed off and let me decide what I wanted.
