The good news is my air conditioner is fine. The bad news is that it’s still hot outside. As the Little River Band sang, though, hang on, help is on its way with a front this weekend. No relief from the “moon” songs until the end of the month, though, Here’s today’s song…complete with a “Linda? NO!” warning. #5: The Moon Just Turned Blue - J.D. Souther Huh? The guy who co-wrote “Heartache Tonight” gets a warning for being country? You bet. He also co-wrote “New Kid in Town.” J.D. Souther walked that country/rock line like most of the other people in the so-called “L.A. Mellow Mafia” of the 70s (including the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt). This song was included on his one “big hit” album, You’re Only Lonely. Because of its overt country sound, it was also included in the film Urban Cowboy. So if you’ve heard this, it was most likely in one of those two places. (Oh, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band covered it, so there’s that possibility. ) Dang, I miss J.D. Souther.
