I had a wrong thought.

When I bought the house - well, before - I called to see how much taxes ran on the house and property. They gave me this figure, but said when I turned 65 it would drop to a different figure well below the first.
And I thought to myself I thought "Self, that do sound like reasonable enough figures don't you think?" and of course I thought 'yes' 'cause it was me I was talking to.
So anyway yeah I bought it and I turned 65 Jan 5th of this year and I got my property taxes yesterday and discovered that well I am paying the 2024 taxes at which point I was not yet 65.
Dammit.
So next year my property taxes are going to drop a whole heck of a bunch.

They are always a year behind. Same will happen for us when next year comes.

I've only had the property three years and had simply paid the figure without really reading anything. Oops.

@Scarred4Lyfe Yeah, I'm a homeowner, too. With my husband. I got a deduction for being disabled. I'll get another after next year since he'll be 65 this year.

Is this like a pensioner rebate?
We get that here when we are sick or unemployed and old.

Rebate? Doesn't that give you money back? I will be taxed a substantially smaller rate so I do not have to pay as much.

They call that a rebate here but you don't get the cash, just pay less.
Same with rent rebate,
Must admit I agree that a rebate should give actual money back

It may not be where you are since every state has different laws regarding stuff.

Yay for your taxes dropping. I have the Homestead Exemption...whatever that means. Hope you and the crew have a good weekend.

Emoci has the right idea. Stay cool and relax.
Taxes are just never fun, no matter how much they are. At least you can look forward to paying less next year.

Ours do not drop at 65, darn it. Yeah the years run behind the birthdays and it takes an entire year to catch up.

Emoci looks like she's about to drop off that stool!
Bad luck about the rates. I guess it's something to look forward to at least.
