Amyra was excited about her first “driving” lesson. That consisted of sitting in their Prius in the almost empty church parking lot going over what all the buttons, levers, and parts of the car were for. So, no actual driving.
She’ll be 14 on July 6th.
My mom taught me how to drive at 16 although my dad tried first. He got so frustrated he quit. My mom got in the car with me, saw what I was doing wrong, and I was good to go. However, my dad taught me to parallel park (a requirement at least back then), and also taught my then best friend to parallel park.
My dad was 12 when he first drove, back in 1967. In the country, people drove early, legal or not. My dad drove a tractor before he even drove a car. Once, he was stopped on the highway when he was 12, and the cop asked if he had his parent’s permission to drive. My dad said yes, and the police officer let him go in his merry way. Of course, police wouldn’t allow that these days although you’ll find plenty of younger people driving on farms and such. The children of my dad’s best friend do it in Texas all the time. Not recommended, but they are shockingly capable young men and women.
My sister and BIL will have Amyra take Driver’s Ed before she gets her license. I wish all kids would and/or could take it.
How old were you when you first started driving? I know a few Mylotters don’t drive at all…

I was not allowed to drive until I was 18. I took the required driver's course and all of that. I remember my first lesson. I had to drive home in rush hour traffic down city streets. I was terrified.

@AmbiePam There's no way I would start someone out like that.

When I see her sitting there, a young lady, it takes me back to when they first adopted her and she was just a little one. She has grown into such a beautiful young lady, and soon will be driving!
My mother tried to teach me to drive. It did not go well. One evening my Dad had me hop into one of the tractors as he had the sprayer hitched up to it and a small amount of spray left that he wanted to empty by spraying along side the buildings on the farm. My brothers were all gone somewhere, with my mother, and that just left me. Of course when he said 'woe' I didn't stop the tractor, he asked me to hit the clutch followed by asking me to hit the brake. Then I hit (at a slow speed) the tailgate on the neighbour's truck, which was parked back beside our barn, and since the tractor was moving so slowly Dad was able to jump up the stairs and press the clutch in. I didn't know what pedals were what.
After that he gladly paid for me to go to driver's ed in town.

Doesn't Amyra look pleased with her little self?
Good for her. My first driving lesson was on a tractor, just steering it really but I was continually over-correcting so the wheel-marks down the paddock showed these great half-circles back and forth across the farm track.

Oh my. I think I was just at the age of 16. My mom took me to a church parking lot that was huge. But also on the side of a mountain.
I drove down over the parking medians and scared the heck out of mom.
I was 23 when I actually got my license lol.

I was 17. I remember driving with both my mom and dad In general, my mother was a better coach than my dad. I remember once I was driving with him in a nearby community, I lwas going 25 like the sign said. He asked why I was going so slow, I indicated the sign. He said "You don't"t have to go that slow, nobody does " Ha, taught me to have a lead foot!

I took Driver's Ed in school and got my license at 16. I drove a farm tractor in the pasture when I was 14 but it stayed in the pasture.
