Feeling Dizzy and Lightheaded?

Dizziness and feeling lightheaded seems to be pretty common. I feel these off and on and so do the kids. I have even read that some Mylotters feel these from time to time. But are you aware of the many conditions that can cause these symptoms? And, some are very serious. The most common reasons for feeling dizzy or lightheaded are: low blood sugar, Vertigo, standing up too quickly, some medications, motion sickness, and dehydration. But, these can also be a symptom of some other conditions such as Meniere's Syndrome ( where the ears feel full, and may have ringing), Perilymph Fistula ( comes from a hit on the head and one symptom is being sensitive to loud noises), low iron, heart problems, and Vestibular Neuritis ( a viral infection can swell the vestibular nerve in your ear). If you suddenly become lightheaded it can be serious. This can be caused by a blood clot or burst blood vessels. If you can't move your arms, or one side of your face, can't see out of one or both eyes, start to slur your speech, or, get a suddenly painful headache you need to call 911 or be taken to the ER.

Dizziness and lightheadedness can also be symptoms of hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism... even "well-controlled", you can still have those symptoms at times.

Thanks for these reminders. I do feel dizzy at times when I become hypotensive. So, I monitor my BP closely.

I suffer from it periodically from a medication that I take. It is alot to wrap your head around the fact that a medication, which is to help you, actually can cause something such as this, which can hurt you. I remember having dizzy spells as a child, but that was before the discover and removal of the brain tumour that I had growing slowly behind one of my eyes on the back of my optic nerve.

Body tumors do a number on a person. Glad that's all taken care of. We really need to be aware of the side effects of the medications we take.

I start to pass out anytime I exert myself. I get lightheaded if I stand up too fast too. I probably need more water; and I try to drink as much as I can each day.

You may have low blood sugar, and be dehydrated. One thing people don't realize is that coming from a laying or setting position and standing all of a sudden takes a lot of work for your heart. Pumping blood throughout the body when you are laying takes much less work. If you see what I mean.
