Have you enjoyed being mooned this month? Since it’s blistering hot in most of America, it’ll be the sun next month. But first, three more song! Relax, you will know #1. Meanwhile, here’s one of my favorite bands. #3: Wrong Side of the Moon - Squeeze Ah, another “I’m on tour and missing my baby” song. This was from Squeeze’s last album with Jools Holland before he left to start that wonderfully weird life he’s had post-Squeeze. Last year he had a very successful duet album with Rod Stewart, Swing Fever. For years he hosted Later…With Jools Holland which is even well-known over here. He co-hosted Night Music with David Sanborn as well. Oh, and he has an OBE. Despite the album title (“argy-bargy” is slang for a loud, usually playful, discussion), there was no acrimony in Holland’s departure from Squeeze. They were on Later… a number of times together. And, his departure brought Paul Carrack into the band temporarily, long enough to provide Squeeze with one of its best-known songs (“Tempted,” which Carrack sang lead on two of the three verses). Holland rarely sang lead (Glenn Tilbrook is usually the lead vocalist for Squeeze), but he provided a lot of fun when he did! Wrong Side of the Moon Written by Jools Holland and Chris Difford Recorded by Squeeze From Argybargy, 1980 When you’re lonely without a place to go:

He was on the cover of my AARP magazine this month. I didn’t think he was sexy then, and I don’t think he’s sexy now!

Despite me being a big fan of Squeeze, and having seen them in concert, I don’t remember this song. Jools wasn’t a great singer, but is an excellent pianist. I’ve watched a lot of his Later… shows, and he has some great guests on. Some well known, and some not so. He also does a New Year’s Eve show every year called Hootenanny, which is worth watching, if you can stay up that late. I used to, but not for a few years now.

I understand completely. It used to be the concert doors opened at 9 PM, now it's soak in the tub at 9 before bed! Yes, Squeeze definitely picked the correct lead singer. Chris isn't much of a singer, either, but I love "Cool for Cats" (which he sings lead on).

Unusual name. I thought 'Jools' might be a Dutch name and then his surname IS Holland! We went to a jazz festival once and there was a guest Norwegian player called Bent Persson. The compere almost made a very big faux pas as he couldn't quite believe anyone would be called Bent Persson. 'Bent' here used to mean homosexual. I don't if it's a common term or not. Just sayin'. I don't want to sound patronising.

It is (or was) common in the 60s. There was an episode of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) where there was some graffiti on a wall that had the logo for “The Saint” with “is bent” written on it. I had a great laugh when I read what that meant! Jools’ real name is Julian.
