Here we are at the end of June. Half of the year is behind us. I think that is a great thing. It has been a challenging year as far as new technology, including AI, as well as politically, we have a new Prime Minister that we were not expecting to happen. But it did, and we are moving through it all. About a year ago they started having us work 'slant shifts' at work. That is when you work an additional 30 minutes one day to trade off for leaving early 30 minutes on another day. The 'long' days have become more challenging and I tend to move that 30 minutes onto a day which would have had it off or just give it away entirely. Today I gave the majority of my day away entirely. I want to work until July 30, 2027 so that I can max out my CPP (Canada Pension Plan) credits. I did not pay into it when I was younger as I stayed home much of the time, now is my turn. That makes 25 months until I finish work and embark on my next chapter. Enjoy your day myLotters.

Thank you. Today is the day that we will proudly wear our red and white to celebrate our country. I just tucked another lump into our savings sock investment a week ago. That feels so good to do.

@LadyDuck Thank you, I am still planning and saving and doing what I have always been taught to do. I have not given any thought to my day to day living after I finish work, that will come along before I actually finish in a couple of years. Times and habits change so much.

I wish you didn’t have to wait that long even though it’s smart to do. Have you thought about the first thing you’ll do when you actually get to retire? My dad is thinking he’ll retire at 74. Diana’s retirement is awful, and she also retired five years early so she could move here and marry my dad (she lived 1 hour 1/2 away). That might discourage some people, but my dad feels better when he’s helping people anyway.

No, I haven't thought of what I will do that very first day. Hopefully we will go for a nice car ride or a little get away somewhere, although we are planning a trip in September of that year. I know the trips that we have planned, and where I will consider volunteering at. I think that as long as a person is feeling well enough and productive enough, then they should put off retirement as long as possible. It is a final step.

@Juliaacv I know my dad thinks he can’t afford to retire financially, but if that’s what keeps him going physically then I hope he stays where he’s at. Diana also knows when he retires, any traveling they do stops. They won’t be able to go anywhere once he is depending on social security.

@AmbiePam My Dad used to say that if you love what you are doing, it isn't work. He did not officially retire, he only went from farming full time to part time to no time as he was so desperately sick. They travelled during their 60's, but when he turned 71 his health was failing so much that they stopped going anywhere, and most of the time, even for trips into town, my mother had to drive. The last 7 months of his life he wasn't even well enough to go to church. Your Dad is lucky to have his health and to work while he has it. The final look on my Dad's face during those last few minutes, as he looked right through me, towards the window, I thought that he had found a field that he was going to combine (wheat) in a better place. I am sure that he got a full day's worth of wheat taken off that day.

Happy Canada Day!! Happy July!! Yeah I am glad this year is flying by. I'm counting down the months until my trip in November. But I hope that I can finish my boyfriend's diamond painting before then.

Thank you. It is very hot and humid here today, we are watching celebrations from across the country in the comfort of the a/c here. I hope that you get your diamond painting done before then.

I actually have been for a bit now. I have financial goals that I am meeting and setting the next one. I wish that the interest on investments was paying a little higher, but you have to take what you get.

I have to take shorter days now, and imagine that will increase as the time rolls closer to July 2027.

The calendar year that I actually retire, I will have to scale back my hours as much as possible, because my income for that year will be too high otherwise and the tax man will hit me. I have shares that I will be cashing out that year as well as starting on the pension as well as the government pension plans.

25 months sounds a long time but it's amazing sometimes how quickly the years can go by. It makes sense to max out your credits if you can.

The company has to pay into it as well, so stopping too early without enough credits results in less monthly income after retirement.
