Not starting as well as I would like.

When we didn't get to bed until 3 A.M. and George asked for four hotdogs, I knew this morning would be a rough one. George and I pretty much overslept, but thankfully he's sitting enjoying the sunshine outside and got his meds within the window. He's got his pepsi, too. I can't help but think part of the pain he's feeling sometimes might not be due to mild dehydration. Which suggests, he can't absorbe enough on his own yet, without the aide of his tube. Which is a disappopitment for him for sure.
He's trying though I'll give him credit for that. And we're alive.

Pepsi or any soda doesn't really hydrate us. He needs water or sports drinks

It's watered down, more ice then pepsi. And, I know softdrinks don't hydrate. That's why I doubledown on watcher flushes, too.

@MarieCoyle I know. the goal is just to get him drinking, something. It's watered down with ice, and I flush his tube like a crazy person.

Have you ever tried Pedialyte or Gatorade? They are expensive but....

I flush his tube three to four times a day with warm water. But, as I've mentioned before, I can't force him to drink something he doesn't want.

I know you're glad he's eating anything, but can't he eat something healthier than hot dogs? Even pizza be better.

First of all, George gets three doctor-prescribed and nutrion-supported meal replacment shakes three times a day. Which is why the focus isn’t on a balanced diet, so much as it’s on him eating enough by mouth to sistain his weight at a healthy level. I can offer him other things, sure, but he can refuse. This isn’t a child where I can say, eat what’s in front of you, or you don’t eat at all. This is an adult. A man who’ll be turing 65 at the end of the year.
Every so often he’ll eat a cup or two of greak yogert or an ice cream swamich. But, while we transion from tube feeds to oral intake only we need to trust the process.

@kaylachan What about milkshakes, or pudding? No one every intimated he was a child. I know you are doing your best, I just wonder why it is always hot dogs, when everyone is aware of how nasty they are. He really won't eat anything else?

@snowy22315 Like I said, he will eat other things, but that's the one constant that goes down easy, and apparently is easy on his stomach. Before the stroke, he'd eat ground beef everyday if he could.

Dehydration is a bummer. We need water for all organs to function right.Less pop and more water might help.

As they say, you can lead a horse to water, but can't make them drink.
