I Almost Fell The Other Day and It Scared Me

We were at Buffalo Wild Wings and I took 3-5 steps then suddenly went halfway down to the floor, caught myself and was able to stand back up. It really shook me up. I didn't slip or trip on anything. It was either my knee or my hip. My husband is encouraging me to see an orthopedist as I have been having some recurring and consistent pain in my right hip (which is the side that gave out the other day). I don't like getting old.

You may need a hip replacement. Hips are far less painful and difficult than a knee. Good luck! Walk slowly and deliberately.

When I injured my ankle, I was forever clutching things to prevent myself going over. Think I am over the worst now

Sounds a bit like my fall the other day, but I didn't get a chance to catch myself. Before I knew it I was down, and couldn't believe it had happened.

I don’t like getting older, either. Still, it beats the alternative! I’ve always been clumsy, so I wouldn’t know if anything was age-related. My brother was mad because they put a “fall hazard” sign on his room when he had his shoulder surgery. The nurse said everyone over 70 gets one.

Getting old is something that sucks that we all must do. Glad you were able to catch yourself before disaster struck. Normally I'm pretty good on my feet (so far). But there are times when the cats dart between or around my legs and I swear I'm going down.

Another friend on here fell just the other day. I hope the doctor can help you and I am glad you did not fall all the way and break something.

Glad you were able to avoid falling. When my knee finally gave up I was sitting and when I got up I saw what the problem was right away, I am managing great and that is most important for me, I hope your hip will be OK

@looeyville Old age is not for cissies. A fall or near fall can be very destabilizing. I understand why people lose confidence after a fall.

As much as you travel, you need your hip to be reliable. I know I wouldn't want to be in another country if one of my ''parts'' gave up the ghost... No one likes getting older. But it happens, and unfortunately, often our bodies need to be repaired.
