I am working on peaches

We have eaten some, and I have peeled and sliced about a third of the box. I am freezing them in quantities that will make a good pie.
I do not put any sugar on them, just some lemon juice, because I do not have any citric acid, or at least I cannot find it. That is to keep them from turning brown. Some people buy a product called "fruit fresh" which is citric acid and sugar.
This is hard work, because it is standing still. And it is by the stove.
I am blanching and shocking the peaches to make them easy to peel. Then slicing them and packaging them to freeze.
Mowing the front again today because it rained, of course.
Bob would like peaches on ice cream. Me too!!

It was very good. I would like to find some mini cantaloupes. Way back when first hubby and I visited some Navy friends they served vanilla ice cream in a half cantaloupe, with strawberries on top. Love fresh fruit.

There is an agricultural family that supplements their income by going with their semi truck to different states and bringing back lots of seasonal produce. These peaches in particular were grown in Florida. The wife posts when the fruit will be ready and takes orders, although they had extra this time. We drive to their farm, or a surrounding big parking lot and pay and their kids load our order into our vehicle. I have purchased strawberries from them in the past, those usually come from Florida.

@GardenGerty Hop they get to sell all what they collect in time before they lose their freshness.

I always ate as many raw as I could before they started getting soft and then cut them into pies and baked them... I gave away a lot of pies to friends since Pretty hates peaches. (We used to buy fresh strawberries and I'd clean them and freeze them in Ziploc Freezer bags so she could make smoothies for herself with them. There are several bags of frozen strawberries ready now... She bought some frozen banana chunks to add to her smoothies, too. I don't like smoothies.)

I had rather have a milkshake. All of that sounds yummy. I do not really want to heat up the house, but Bob wants a peach cobbler and what I read said to even leave them unpeeled. I may get up at five and make one tomorrow.

@GardenGerty I love vanilla milkshakes! We used to stop at McDonald's and buy a large milkshake each and that was our lunch or, we'd stop at Sonic and buy milkshakes... Either way, I love vanilla milkshakes.
I hope you can make one for him... I like peach cobbler, too. When I was a kid, we had a huge cast iron wood burning stove at the back of the house and mom cooked on it during the summer to keep from heating the house up too much...
Most of our cooking is done at night so we don't strain the air conditioner. We do use the microwave to heat things up but no other cooking during the daytime.

We will do some unpeeled, but I still hear my mom complaining about my dad's mom not peeling her apples for pies. Honestly they are better for you unpeeled.

@GardenGerty I do peel apples when I make pie. I don't own a peeler cause I don't peel carrots and when we make mashed potatoes we don't peel the potatoes- we put the cooked mash through a Foley food mill so no need to peel.

It certainly is both. I was overly optimistic about how much I had gotten done, but there is always tomorrow as well. I tell myself it is my personal sauna and beauty treatment.

He is asking for a peach cobbler. I will have to look up a recipe for peach crumble. Also will have to buy some more ice cream.

A peach cobbler might be an even more tasty way to go Heather
I had not even considered that

Fresh and just washed is the easiest, but to take advantage of this deal I do have to process them.

Yummy!! I have frozen peaches at home that I throw into a blender with some water and Splenda and turn into a mock-up of sorbet.

Mowing is something I can do pretty much every day, and should, if it is not raining.

I have some just in the fridge unprocessed for snacks and then I have also frozen containers that are small enough to just have with a meal. I still have quite a few peaches. Bob wants a cobbler soon.

That's a big project but will be so nice in the middle of winter to have a peach.

Thanks for this, as it is very informative. I’m always on the lookout for good gardening and preserving advice. (The idea of buying boxes from Costco to preserve for things I can’t grow - good idea too! That’s how I get in my practice for preservation techniques, aha!)
With that being said, I prefer peaches and ice cream to peach pie. Your husband has good taste.

He is actually lobbying for a peach cobbler, and it is easy enough to make. I may get up early and do it. There are just two of us, so if I do make one, I will portion it out and freeze the portions. It is way too hot for this, but I am doing it anyway.
