Forty cans entry fee

We’re travelling and I haven’t had internet for a few days. We’ll probably be away another two days so I won’t be posting much. But I thought I’d share another funny sign with us. We didn’t plan our stops but just thought we’d drive till we needed to camp for the night. This was a good idea as we could stop and start more easily than if we had to get to a certain point at a certain time. We came to a sign to a museum and thought we’d pull in. We’re so glad we did. This was the sign we saw at the entry. In Australia, many drink cans and bottles can be handed in and you get 10c back. Many clubs and associations now collect cans to help generate funds. We promised the doorman that next time we’d come back with our 40 cans. I'll have more about this place later.

I wonder how many cans it would take to tell them apostrophes signify posession not pluralities...

A nice idea and saves you having to convert the cans into cash yourself first. I just wish they hadn't used the apostrophes in 'cans' - I mean can's what?

The can thing is just meant as a joke. I'm always seeing incorrect apostrophes and it's really irksome but what can you do? I don't feel like drawing their attention to it. Most of these museums are run by retired people who put a lot of work in for virtually no reward so I try to ignore wrong signage.

It's must meant as a joke. It was $10 for pensioners; $15 for adults.

It’s great when unplanned stops turn out to be the most memorable.

@rakski No. The notice is just meant as a joke. But if we had empty containers in the motor-home we'd put them in the sack there.

It's just a joke. It was $10 for us to go in. That was pensioner price.

I doubt if anyone will get that bonus looking at the number of cans one has to offer.

There were quite a few cans in the bag behind the sign. I guess if people had a can or two in their cars they'd donate them.

@Ronrybs We take ours to bins at the clubhouse and proceeds go to the social committee so they can entertain us.

You see some people actively collecting them at roadside parking areas, etc, so it is helping keep down the litter.

A lot of associations encourage the collection of bottles as it is quite a good fund-raiser.
