Toad in the Hole

July 4, 2025 2:01pm CST
Toad in the Hole Cooked by Yvonne and very good it was. Great to see Yvonne up and about a bit more, so her cooking a meal is excellent news You know what Toad in the Hole is? Basically brown some sausages until the fat comes out, in a pyrex dish in the oven, pour a batter over and bake at a relatively high heat Yum Yvonne used 4 Jumbo Pork Sausages. And we had the usual Chips and Mixed Vegetables with it. Mashed potatoes are better but omg oh dear, we had no real tatties in the hoose. So there you go Toad in the hole Bad picture I took Can't really see the actual Toad in the Hole lol

See this " dish" word It does my head in. I have no idea why. Well I imagine the sausage is the toad And the batter is the hole Or it could be the other way round I really honestly don't know

Yes The plate itself is Royal Thai Porcelain China I mentioned to @ladyduck that I had a whole dinner service of this crockery and she suggested I use it. It does make food look better than on the childish cheap dinner plates I used before The Road in the Hole was excellent

Gravy makes a difference. If I had had mashed potato with it I would have made a thicker gravy

I only made this once and Vince played with the title with a very rude word and I've never made it since.

It's not quick, Not quick enough. Takes 15 minutes to brown the sausages and make them leak the fat out You can melt some lard with the browning sausages too Then 15 minutes to bake the batter Make sure battery covers sausages

We have that here, but is a fried egg in a piece of toast. I would not recognize that as toad in the hole, but it looks tasty.

Ah this is the original toad in the hole. 1747 is the first recorded reference to it in England So , do you cut the hole in the bread, and out the egg into the hole, and then fry it?
