I'm making a hedge

July 5, 2025 7:09pm CST
I am making a hedge of sorts with lots of different plants I want it to run along the whole length of the garden and I want it to add some much needed colour to the predominant green. So this is the start of my project. I had all these things in the garden so simply moving them was enough. It's coming on. I have some more stuff to arrange tomorrow.

After my beloved wife passed, I sold our family house. My late wife loved gardening, mostly vegetables. Her 2 apple trees bear lots of fruits. Now I live with my second son and family. My daughter-in-law loves planting vegetables, too. Since their house is a condo-house (no backyard), we grow our veggies and strawberries at the patio.

The " hedge" will be an assortment of plants with flowers surrounding 3 sides of the garden The centre of the garden is grass, we use it for our washing lines. In another corner we have a patio, tables and chairs I another corner my shed and mancave , Here are my shrubs and bushes in the corner where I have started the hedge

@Ineeddentures - I love climbing vine roses, those would be perfect on the fence.

@LadyDuck Climbing Vine Roses. I shall ask Yvonne what she thinks Do these have to be planted directly in the soil or would a pot or planter be ok

I am not really a gardener Anna so I am just being a bit random with this Yvonne wants something running along the inside of the fence, This will be done, Plants in pots, in planters and in the soil. She wants Roses, I will get two or three. There will be variety

It's really difficult to get a decent photo Their is a hedge running up the other side of my would be hedge and the path in between isn't wide enough to get a good photo taken as I would be too close to my would be will be hedge

As long as it doesn't look like it's been planned and remains rough and random I will be ok with it.

Good luck with your hedge. There are lots of plants with colourful foliage if you want to add some colour.

That is the plan Judy. I want to keep as many pots and planters as I can as then the hedge can be moved about a bit

That could confuse future archaeologists as they reckon that for each established plant species in a hedge equals 100 years of the hedge being there
