Here's the Deal: Part 2- The Trip Back!

We had no problems on our way down to pick up the boat. My husband was freaking out because we were so close to Mexico, which was within an hour's drive of where we picked the boat up. That brought back memories of visiting my cousins in San Antonio years ago. My mom always wanted to make the trip down to Mexico for some shopping, but we never really had the time or made the time when we visited them. I wish we had of done that! Back to the trip back-- My husband made a mistake and did not realize that his (stupid) GPS had given him a different route home. Instead of coming in from the south like we came, the GPS sent him north through San Antonio. That is not what we wanted pulling a 24' boat! We survived that and made it to the other side of San Antonio and about and hour give or take away from Houston. We heard a loud POP on the interstate and discovered not one, but two blowouts! We were prepared with two new tires on rims that we brought along in the back of the truck that were the same size as on the trailer and the lugs matched up perfectly too. We had bought those for the Maxum trailer. We pulled over at a gas station with convenience store and changed the tires. They had Mexican music playing over the loud speaker and on a loop. We did get tired of hearing those same tunes over and over again. Finally back on the road and we headed East toward home. My husband was a nervous wreck now and his anxiety was kicking in overtime. And we did not have a spare tire now. We did not stop to eat, he just wanted to get home. However, it came time for a fill up in gasoline and we just happened to have a Buckee's coming up. We stopped there and yes, took a break to look around inside. That was our first visit to Buckee's! We both grabbed a sandwich; he got a BQ Brisket sandwich and I got a chicken sandwich. They were both delicious and filling. So back on the road and we finally made it into Louisiana and darkness fell. We only had about 5 more hours of driving and BOOM! Yes, you guessed it--another blowout. We managed to get the truck off the interstate without getting run over once again and talked about the plan. We were in between Lake Charles, La and Lafayette, LA where our oldest daughter lives--but in the process of moving. We were lucky this wasn't an August trip! We decided to wait it out and get her to come and pick me up and go to the tire shop and get a tire put on the last rim. It was still good, unlike the other two rims. I talked to my grandson via text, who was still up and he went to wake up my daughter. She said that was fine, her boss would not mind her coming in to work late. So we sat on the side of the interstate and waited for her. It was about 6:40 when she got there and we loaded up the rim into the back of her truck and headed to Crowley to get a new tire. I told her first to stop at the first exit and gas station so that I could use the restroom. After that we found the tire place, got the tire put on and I checked out. I was paying with my debit card and saw a $10 charge for using a card. I asked about other payment and he told me cash or Cash Ap. I asked if he had PayPal and he said, "Yes that will work." He took off the cc fee, sales tax and the DEQ fee for the tire. Cool. That saved me a good $30.xx. We got back to the boat and truck and my husband changed the tire. My daughter headed out and I gave her money for gas since they were heading to Monroe for the weekend. We headed to the tire shop to get a spare tire. My husband was not going any further without one. At the shop the mechanic told my husband that the first two tires were not trailer tires, but car tires. That is why we had the first two blowouts. Ended up arriving at home around 5:30 pm on Thursday evening! I'm just thankful that we had the 2 new trailer tires with us and that we out off the road safely with no accidents both times. Sorry so long. I'll be adding Part 3 to tell you another reason he was so upset! Photo Credit: My Own

Every time my nieces and nephew run across a Buccee’s they have to go in. I’ve never been into one, but will get a chance in November. Ten dollars for using a card? That’s insane!

Dang. A simple plan isn't always simple. Just like a boat though. Costing you money even before you get it on the water. Blowouts on a trailer can be dangerous. It was a great idea to bring spares on rims but you really had some bad luck. I'm waiting for part III.

Yep, taught him not to listen to heartily to someone saying the tires are good on the trailer and not to worry, it has two new tires on it also. The two new tires were two "used" car tires and not trailer tires.

Yes, and we both said it will be awhile before another road trip. I joked and said two weeks.

Holy smokes. I'm not sure what my reaction to this trip would have been, but I'm sure my wife probably would have been disgusted with me and the trip. That sounds like a horrible experience. But of course, I also think it will be one you will never forget and a story you'll tell for years to come.

@porwest Right! I'm just thankful that we got off the interstate in order to change the first 2 that blew. They were on the driver's side and I would have had a heart attack just trying to do get them changed. Those people don't slow down or get over in TX.

@kareng You might expect the possibility of one blowout, even though THAT'S rare. But you'd never consider multiple blowouts. lol

Sounds like it wasn't worth the hassle. I hope the boat turns out to be worth it. It is a nice looking vessel.

Yikes. Reads like a Laurel & Hardy comedy of errors…minus the comedy. So thankful there were no wrecks, no damage, and no incidents.

We were very lucky. Only had the first two rims ruined from the blowouts. Easily replaced!! There was not any room to get on the side of the interstate there, we had to ride on the wheels for a couple of miles to the next exit.
