A story I just learned about my mother.

A Mylotter once asked me to post more about my mom, but I haven’t too much, and since I’m low on post ideas I thought I would share this one. I just found out about it last year (May 4th it was 10 years since she died at 55).
There was this missionary from Russia named Hector, and he came over to the U.S. a couple times a year to raise money for their ministry, which included a large orphanage. As you can imagine, over there, there was not a huge priority on orphanages. So, he had come over about six times over the years, and one year my mom found out he had gotten married recently, but instead of having a wedding and honeymoon, they took that money and put it back into the orphanage.
My mom wanted to do something nice. Although her fibromyalgia and other health problems were keeping her from working )this was pre dementia), she was feeling better. She heard a local college needed a secretary for four days a week in the summer, five hours a day. With a Masters, my mom was massively overqualified. She couldn’t physically hold up to a permanent full time job, so she decided to take the job for the summer, take the money, and surprise Hector at the end of the summer with money for a honeymoon. So she did. Hector was so excited! He went home, and he and his wife went away for a honeymoon they never had.
Hector died five months later. My mom got a letter from his widow not long after, thanking her for giving them such a gift.
I was so glad to find out that story. And I’m so glad Hector’s wife got to have those memories.

What a kind and generous mother you had. It's a rare quality to want to bring comfort to another when you're not doing so well yourself. It tells me that you had a great example to follow and you cherish those memories. What a great story.

This brought tears to me. What a wonderful and special thing to do. You had a special mother and you have an awesome wonderful dad, too. I do know that they have a daughter who is a very special and sweet lady.
A truly wonderful story, Amber.
