Dinner at a Greek restaurant

Before going to see Death Becomes Her musical we went to a Greek restaurant called Molyvos for some dinner. Our show started at 7:30pm so our dinner was at 5pm. For appetizer we got Ouzo Flamed Halloumi Cheese Saganaki in a lemon butter sauce, and Ionian Hamachi Crudo (meyer lemon vinaigrette, kumquats preserves, cretan smoked sea salt, american caviar). Both were delicious but not that big. The halloumi cheese had three slices so we had one each. The hamachi crudo was not really big enough to share between three people—only four small thin slices—but we managed to divide it so at least each of us got a taste. For the main dish I wanted to get the wild striped bass and hubby wanted to get the sardines. Neither were available so we had to settle for something else. I ended up getting the wild Icelandic Cod. It came with marinated beets and skordalia. Hubby got Canneloni (stuffed pasta, braised lamb shank, aged kefalotyri cheese sauce). My mom didn’t know what to get for her main dish so we suggested the moussaka. She seemed to like it. Hubby got a cocktail of some kind and I got a lemonade. It was a fairly small glass and it ended up costing $8. I had no idea it was gonna be so expensive. It was really good but still $8 is a lot for a small lemonade. For dessert we shared a Greek Yogurt (strawberry spoon sweets, pistachios) and a Ravani (semolina and toasted almond cake, orange spoon sweet, vanilla yogurt cream). I enjoyed everything we ate. I don’t remember the exact amount but the total came out to around $246 I think. Definitely an expensive dinner but when you eat in Manhattan especially in the vicinity of the Theater District you can’t expect to spend very little. I’m just glad that total was not more than that.

Yeesh. Yeah, that was a lot. But I can imagine...Manhattan...not a cheap town at all. Not sure I'd really be all that up on Greek food, but some of it sounded kind of good.

I don’t eat it often. But mostly because near me there aren’t any places like that. I either have to go to Manhattan or Brooklyn.

@lovebuglena At least you had a good time. That's all that matters when you go out to eat. Well, that and having plenty to eat of course. I don't like spendy places, though. Give me lots of food, cheap, and I'm as happy as a lark.

@porwest Especially if something is expensive it better be more than a few bites on the plate.

I really liked it. I love their lemon chicken soup. I was tempted to order it yesterday but it was too hot for soup.

Restaurant prices have gone up here too. It's a bit annoying when a dish you'd particularly like isn't available.

I knew what I wanted to order before I even got to the restaurant as I looked at the menu online. I didn’t expect to be told they don’t have it that day.

I would have had a small heart attack over the bill; but I understand...Manhattan. It's not Ohio. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

My mom paid for the dinner. I thought hubby’d pitch in but he didn’t.

I quite like Greek food. I would not have liked the Bill though That is a lot of money $8 for a small lemonade. Why didn't you just have water?

When I ordered it I didn’t inquire how much it costs.

@lovebuglena Ah, I thought you would know by now to ask so you could avoid getting ripped off Because $8 for a small lemonade is a rip off regardless of the restaurant

@Ineeddentures It feels awkward asking the server how much it is. A ripoff perhaps but still cheaper than paying $15 or more for a small cocktail.
