When we saw this board in the Shackleton Hall showing old-time dances, it took us back many years to the time Vince played drums in a dance band. The group called themselves the Evergreens and played for old-time dances. The driving force was the pianist whose husband played saxophone. His brother played guitar and Vince played drums. The dance program would be set on stage much like the one in the photo. The towns in the area were far apart and the group would sometimes not get home till 3 or 4 in the morning. Once they hit a kangaroo and it was 8 am before they eventually got home. The dances were very popular and the band was booked up almost every Saturday.

I always enjoyed these old-time dances but once Vince started playing drums I didn't get to go to so many. I stayed home to mind the children.

I think I know none of those dances. I know how to waltz, a bit of Cha-Cha and Rock and Roll.

We were always disappointed that we never learnt to jive. I would have liked to be able to jive.

@JudyEv reminds me of my uncle who took dancing lessons when he was young (he's in his 90s now) and learned the Peabody. He and my aunt do that dance at every wedding, function, etc regardless of the music playing. The rest of us are just dancing while he and my aunt are spinning around the dance floor.

We used to go to a lot of dances before we married. They were always very enjoyable occasions.

Good memories. Hubby never danced with me once. He didn't know how and didn't want to learn.

Good times for Vince. I was home with the kids but that's okay. It's water under the bridge now.

I know the names of several dances but unfortunately I do not know how to do any of them ….i could maybe waltz ! I would love to learn more but The Mister is not a dancer at all, by choice, I’m sure he could if he tried.

The waltz is very popular. Most of the other dances have waltzing as part of the sequence.
