I had to take the photo above. I’ve seen similar patterns in the dirt many times and always marvel at time. Well, you know what they say – small things amuse small minds.
The upper part of the photo is a rock which meets the sand at a right angle. A small weed has grown up at the base of the rock, has died and fallen over. It’s been swept back and forth in the wind to create the circular marks on the ground. Fascinating, don’t you think?

That is quite amazing. When I first looked, I thought a trash can had been placed there.

I've seen these types of patterns quite often where the wind has pushed a twig or grass back and forth.

Yes, it is fascinating! There was a place in Teddy Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota where the wind blew on one side of the area but not the other. As a result, the soil was rocky on the side without much wind and smooth as sand on the side that got the wind. The walls of the slopes were different, too, all in the space of a couple of feet!

You have to marvel at such things. And how long would it take for the rock to be worn so smooth?

Yes, I guess I have a small mind... I do find things like that interesting.

I often see this happening with grass trees that sweep the ground.

I love seeing stuff like this. Ant and insect nests can be fascinating too.

It's surprising what is out there if you keep your eyes open.
