Time for a boat ride! I’m off to explore the Wabash and Erie Canal. But first, lunch at Chuy’s and another sunny song. Here’s a song that most people know and a name most people have long forgotten. Sunny - Bobby Hebb Yeah, you don’t remember the name of Bobby Hebb. This was his biggest hit, although he did have two more songs that scraped into the top 40 (so he, technically, wasn’t a one-hit wonder). Isn’t this a happy song? Hebb wrote it after his brother was stabbed to death. It obviously starts with a down feeling (“yesterday my life was filled with rain…you smiled at me and really eased the pain”) then moves on to brighter things. That’s hard to do. I’m thankful he was rewarded with success with this song that he wrote as a tribute to his brother. Sunny Written by Bobby Hebb Recorded by Bobby Hebb From Sunny, 1966 Thank you for the truth you let me see:

There were a lot of canal systems running from the Great Lakes to major waterways (the Ohio or the Mississippi, or big tributaries like the Wabash) for transportation. With the rise of the railroad the canal system dried up, figuratively speaking.

@FourWalls I am only familiar with the Erie running from Albany to Buffalo and the C and O. I am not sure how the Wabash got intertwined with the Erie The canal system wasn't just on the Geat Lakes to my knowledge

@snowy22315 — no, it wasn’t. There were canals all throughout the Midwest.

It's a yes. Groovy, upbeat enough. Another good one. A sad story with a major chord progression. Nice.

I know this song, but the Boney M version of it. They were big here in the 70’s. The male member of the group was a crazy dancer.

Sometimes I totally change my opinion about a song knowing the back story. That's so sad that he lost his brother.

It’s not a “favorite” with me either, but mention the topic of sunny songs and it immediately comes to mind.

That's really sweet. I had no idea of the backstory, but I do remember the song really well!

They probably stopped saying his name about 45 years ago after playing it.

Yes, I know this song and like it. But I think I just heard of the song by another singer.

It could be. Many people covered popular songs back then, and you’d end up with half a dozen different versions!
