Charlie the cat scared me

I was putting out freeze-dried chicken treats for the Cat Crew (thanks @Ambiepam ). Adso and Claire came running but Charlie was nowhere to be found. I called and called him. I searched around all of his favorite hidey holes but I didn't see him. I watered the plants on the landing an hour or so ago and I was afraid that maybe he snuck out the door. I always check the surroundings when I open the door because he is very bipolar--he may just sit there or he could be like a ninja and bolt out. There was a moment where I thought he might have ran past me but I didn't see him on the stairs so I figured it was just my imagination. Well after getting myself all worked up and about to call the neighbor to go on a search and rescue mission I decided to open up a can of wet food. Of course the other 2 came running. After a minute or two Charlie sauntered into the kitchen. I have no idea where he was. I was super relieved to see him but I really wish I knew where he was hiding. There are limited places in this joint since I keep the door to the 2nd bedroom and the walk-in closet closed. Punk.
