Did you have a pager back in the day?

I am watching an older movie where one of the characters is using a pager. I had one back in the 90's for 2 or 3 years, prior to my first cellphone. When your pager went off, you had to call whoever called you as soon as you could find a phone .if you wanted to talk to them that is.

Before cell phones, yes, I did. I honestly did not want one at all, but work bought all of us pagers and required we use them.

I didn't mind having one. The babysitter could always get a hold of me.

@snowy22315 It was handy in many ways. But I traveled a lot for work, and invariably I would get beeped when I was either in heavy traffic or traveling on a busy interstate, which of course always involved stopping and finding a phone. That was the main part I didn't like. I did have one of the first cell phones, a ''bag'' phone for the car, it was OK but usually if I was not in a well populated area, I usually got cut off when I was using it.

I had one for work in the 90’s too. The 1st used to go off and I had to ring a number. I then got an upgraded one that left a short message. Like you, until I got a cell phone, I had to go find a landline to ring whoever.

My dad had one because people constantly wanted to talk to him. It used to drive us nuts at home with all the calls so he got a pager. He’d always answer the call though which was handy because I got lost at 16, and stopped at a Love’s to use their pay phone. I was so freaked out. I wasn’t used to the interstate at that point, and it showed! I made certain to put a 911 after the pay phone number!

Yes I have one when I was in my late teens. That was a time where everyone has a mobile and I was still using a pager.

They were popular here for a fairly short period of time in the tech evolution. I think doctor's carried them for quite awhile, plumbers etc.

Think here everyone uses a cell. I don't think any of the pager companies are still in business.

@snowy22315 if I remember right there's one middle east country that replace their phones with pager. Have you heard of it?

I never had a pager. They were good if someone needed to get ahold of you before the cell phones came along.
