Back when I was 12 years old my great aunt June passed away. She lived in California. My grandmother was already there and my aunt, my mom, two cousins and myself traveled down from Idaho in my step father's brand new station wagon. In Utah we saw several rock formations just as the sun was going down. It was a beautiful sight. Utah is famous for it's rock formations. I remember we traveled through Las Vegas about the time kids were getting out of school because in the area we traveled through kids were all over. It started getting late. Mom was driving and had been for hours. She made a comment about some guy standing out by the side of the road. There was no guy and my aunt decided it was time for her to take over. My aunt hadn't been driving long when a deer popped out onto the road and she couldn't avoid hitting it. The cousins were in back asleep and she made me promise I would never tell those two that their mom had hit a deer.( A promise I kept.) A trucker just happened to be close by and he stopped to help us. What a nice guy! He took my mom into the nearest town to make arrangements to get the car fixed. He gave my aunt a pep talk about how she could not have avoided hitting that animal. He made sure us kids were okay and brought us something to drink. He stayed there with us until everything was set up. Luckily, the car did not have much damage. It got fixed in a short time and we were back on the road. I am so glad that trucker was there because my aunt was a basket case and felt so bad. Mom was a trouper as she usually was. I don't know what made me think of that time. It just came to me when I woke up today. That happened sixty(60) some years ago.

Sometimes strangers really do come through for you when you need help the most.

Truckers were always nice when I was a kid. When we were traveling and saw one on the highway we used to put an arm up in the honking stance and they would blow their loud horns for us.

@celticeagle Pretty used to do that, too, when we were traveling... Most of them honked the horn for her, too.

Luckily you got help when needed. Never believe this but the worst thing that ever happened between me and an animal was when I got lost on a dark country road in the Catskills in NY state and we stopped the car to get out to look around and I opened the door and stepped on a skunk

There are still nice truckers out there. It's nice when strangers help. It shows there is still hope.
