Would you eat it?

Okay, Mylotters, I have a question for you. I had one of those premade dinners (NOT a frozen dinner) that has been cooked, and you just need to microwave. Somehow, I did not see where it was put when I came inside yesterday. I discovered it today, a full 24 hours later, without refrigeration. Oklahoma is blasted hot though, so inside my apartment I keep the air conditioner running high.
It’s salmon. I don’t want to waste it. Do I eat it? I’m thinking yes.

I'd hate for you to get food poisoning, Amber. I personally wouldn't trust it to be safe, especially seafood.

I totally agree, Chicaa. No need to take a chance.

@AmbiePam Maybe if it was cheese or something with a ton of preservatives in, but definitely not something like that. Besides you may already be immunocompromised to a degree

The FDA says two hours. It also says that if temps are hot, even less time.
Does it pass the smell test?
I might still take a bite to see but having poison control on speed dial might be a good idea.

I hate wasting anything. I ordered some salmon for dinner here tonight.
It's iffy but one bite should tell you if it's safe to eat.
I was going to say sounds fishy but thought iffy was better right now.

I've had food poisoning before and it's not pretty... No, I wouldn't trust it... Please be careful if you try a bite.

@DaddyEvil From one bite? Wow!
I got food poisoning along with my mom the Thanksgiving I was fifteen. Long John Silver’s shrimp wrap. Four days of wretchedness. For years, and I’m sure you understand, to get our goat, my sister and dad would say “shrimp wrap” when they wanted to get us. We never ate Long John Silver’s again.

@AmbiePam Thank goodness! I ate some pasta with chicken in it that had set out for a couple of hours before I put it away. Pretty walked in right after I'd eaten one bite... I asked if she wanted some and she wrinkled her nose and told me to spit the bite out, the pasta was bad... I rinsed and rinsed to get as much out of my mouth as I could but couldn't do anything about the bite I'd swallowed.
The next morning, I woke up sweating my tush off on a cool fall day. I went to work and kept feeling worse and worse... At my first break, I couldn't get up out of the chair without falling down... My boss came in to see what was going on and put his hand on my shoulder and jumped back saying I was boiling hot. They got the security guard to drive me home and I called my doctor. She told me to stay in bed and drink all the water, juice or broth I could and hope I felt better soon. She said if I was still running a high fever by the next day I really, really should go to the ER...
I ran a high fever for several days but didn't want to go to the ER... I just kept drinking juice and water until I started feeling better.

Unless your apartment is less than 40 degrees or hotter than 140, you shouldn't eat it. And I don't know if heating it over 140 would kill the bacteria.

I used to get a "stomach bug" every holiday season, if we went to my grandma's. We would have a table groaning with food, and unless it was jello, it was left on the table and covered with a cloth and we ate all day. I did not really put two and two together on that until I moved to California and quit getting sick. Saving a few bucks eating spoiled food is not worth upset stomach or worse.

As much as it hurts to toss food… don’t eat it. . too risky, especially with fish like salmon. Better safe than sick.
