Hello everyone. I hope your day is going well. It is 80 degrees F and sunny here at the Jersey Shore. After a blistering electric bill today I have turned off the AC and opened up the windows. I should be able to get away with that for at least 2 days. Today has been quiet. I mixed up some cookie dough early this morning, went back to sleep, got up and went to the pool, and then got back here and napped for like 2 hours. Aaaahhhh summer vacation is the best! I was pretty much by myself at the pool today. I finally got around to trying out the pool mat that I bought. Oh that would have made a great blooper reel. It took me several attempts to figure out how to balance my fat @ss in the middle and then get onto it. Once I got onto it though it was lovely. I was right on the edge of falling asleep for like 2 hours and wound up drifting all over the pool so it was a good thing that there were only a couple of others there. I finally left after just 2 hours because I felt like I was about to start getting sunburned. So now I'm up, the windows are open, I have chicken soaking in some buttermilk, and I'm going to start baking the sourdough discard chocolate chip cookies. I'm not big into sweets but a nice warm chocolate chip cookie sounds pretty good right about now. A good friend asked if I could help her tonight to plan a menu for her son's birthday party on Sunday. I said I'd help but I'm no expert. She said "hell yeah you are--you are the best cook/baker I know!" Well it is 5:30pm and I haven't heard from her so who knows. I can't make miracles happen in just 24 hours. I plan that stuff days out. So far it is a quiet afternoon/evening here which is fine with me. What's everyone else up to?

Did your rates go up? My bill was the highest ever, yet last night I used it far more. I’m just doing reviews, trying to pacify the dog, and also trying to dodge pictures of the snakes my childhood best friend’s husband keeps killing in their house. The latest was a rat snake on their kitchen table. Why she sends them to me I’m not sure.

@AmbiePam yeah I was shocked. Hence why I opened up the windows today and turned off the AC. With my asthma I can't handle high humidity but it isn't bad at there. I think tonight the low is like 70. I can handle that with the fan blowing on me in bed.

The bill was $199 for a 2 bedroom apartment. Insane! I've got to lay off of the AC.

Our electric bill is on level-pay so we pay the same $96, I think, every month... Pretty said we got some money back last month when they figured the bills from last year. I didn't ask how much we got back, though. It's 88F with 69% humidity which makes the RealFeel 95F. We had rain storms this morning and it's still cloudy now but the clouds are supposed to clear off during the night. Hope you enjoy your evening/night.

I don't do the budget plan though I should. I don't for the gas either. I figure it all works out between the electric for the AC in the summer and the gas for the heat in winter.

@NJChicaa The gas company says they have "level pay" but all they're making sure is the same is the basic bill, which doesn't include the gas you use during the winter months. It's just their basic plan plus the gas you use. I'm hoping with all the insulation and fixes the construction guys are doing that both summer and winter bills drop. This last winter, I went out and put a board over the crawlspace entrance under the house and our bill dropped by $50 a month. I could feel hot air coming out of there before I put the board over it. You might not have to worry about that because you're in an apartment and we're in a house. I'm honestly not sure... I only lived in an apartment for a few months before finding another house when my first wife and I started getting divorced.

I am working on sharing news stories today, completing surveys under a mostly cloudy day today with a flood watch until 7 pm local time after rain from a tropical disturbance that passed through last night.

I have been being so careful with electric usage. The AC is set higher than I really want, but I've done that most of the summer, and it's still a lot better than not having it on. I also have 2 fans I use, as well as several ceiling fans, so that's helpful as well. But still, the electric rates have climbed up and up, everyone I know is very concerned.
