When it comes to "sun" songs, there's one name that's synonymous with sunny summers. And, although we lost that voice last month, the "endless summer" rolls on with the legacy of music he left us. So grab a bottle of suntan lotion and a beach towel and let's head to the ocean for today's song.
The Warmth of the Sun - The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys and summer were made for each other. In fact, we younger folks wonder how our grandparents and earlier generations even endured summers without the Beach Boys!
In addition to all of those happy, upbeat songs, they could turn out some gorgeous ballads. While "In My Room" may be the best known of them, this song, which was the B-side to their single "Dance Dance Dance," is another sterling example of the versatility of the genius of Brian Douglas Wilson.
Interesting fact: this song was written the day of JFK's assassination.

The Beach Boys were on the best artists of their era.

I definitely agree. There are just a handful of artists who truly defined an era, and the Beach Boys defined the 60s in American music.

I like the way it nods to the 50s doo-wop. Sad lyrically, but considering that they wrote it the day of JFK's assassination, that's understandable.

“In My Room” is one of the kings of their ballads, along with “Caroline No.”

I don't know that album title but I recognized some of the songs. The one I wanted to listen to was Denny's Drums, because I heard that Dennis Wilson could barely play. Actually, I listened to it. Nothing fancy, but he got it done!

Not the world’s greatest drummer, but as you say he did the job.
