Off to buy a slow cooker

Good morning all. We’re in Melbourne, Australia, visiting our son. We’re heading into the city shortly to buy him either a crock pot or a slow cooker. He doesn’t cook much and I thought either of these appliances might make it easier for him to get some of his own meals and would save him some money on food. We’re staying at an AirBnB which is not far from him so it’s very convenient. The photo shows the door latch. We hadn’t seen one like it before. The little buttons are numbered. Our hosts sent the code in an email and it’s very easy to just push the buttons and open the door. Of course, you have to push the right buttons! I hadn’t seen these before but it beats a key hidden under the doormat or a pot plant. Are they common in your country?

Luckily this code is easy to remember. At least it is for me but Vince always has to ask me what it is.

We have locks with numbers but not in the latch itself. I love my slow cooker. I make soup all winter long with it!

Many of the new locksets are like this. I have an old fashioned key. If I went to an AirBnB and had to get the key from under a pot plant, I'd be tempted to take the pot plant with me when I left. Or at least part of it, lol.

@judyev Never seen one of those. Most Airbnbs here have the key in a lock box fitted to the outside wall and the code is emailed to the customer. But we still have those where the key is under a flower pot or even just already in the door.

A slow cooker is a brilliant idea. Just place all the ingredients in it turn it on & several hours later it is done!

Hope you got something that is quite handy for him to cook a simple meal. Door latches in hotels keep us guessing before we get used to them. I haven't seen a similar one yet, but looks quite smart.

I think this is a great idea. It's very simple to use and it shouldn't be hard to come up with a number combination that isn't too hard to remember.

@JudyEv Me too. We do have round locks with one locking button but that's not proving to be durable anymore. I had to replace two such locks at home.

I have seen similar ones before. I do like them better than keys, as long as they give you the code before arrival. Once had hard time getting in and it was even during check in time. There was nobody in the office! It took us about an hour and a half and several phone calls to connect with someome who could give us the code. Annoying!

I haven't seen it before, but its sure safer than a doormat or flowerpot. My crockpot use to get a lot of use, but only in the winter months and its a hot summer now.

If you're into mince, you can ring the changes a lot with different flavourings, etc. I think this will be ideal for him. He is already checking out recipes so that's a good sign.
