I haven't had fresh apricots since I was a small girl. My grandmother had a tree right by the chicken coop. The chickens liked them and so did I. But, more recently we were given some and I am devouring them very quickly. They are all ripe and so very tasty.
My grandmother used to make this delicious jam. It was apricot jam but had bits of walnuts in it. It was so good. She did a lot of canning. Her relish was delicious too. I enjoyed it because it was sweet relish and many didn't like it so I got my fill. She also canned concord grape juice. We had a nice sized grape arbor out back and I would eat them. I would make myself sick when I came to spend my summers there later on when mom and I moved to Pocatello. I would eat apricots, prunes, raspberries, blackberries, pie cherries, baby carrots, and some others I can't remember.

I like apricots but prefer peaches more. I love cherries but have not had any in a long time, A little basket of raspberries costs too much and strawberries I am never sure if they will be sweet,

I had so many peaches when I was tiny that I just don't care for them much anymore.

I bought a pack of about a dozen fresh apricots last week. They do taste very different to the dried ones …my Mom can’t eat the fresh ones as she doesn’t like the furry texture of the skin.

I can understand that. It bugs me sometimes too. Some don't have it as much.

Apricots are good but peaches are my favorite fruit.
We had all kinds of fruits growing on our farm when I was growing up... It was always a contest between kids, birds and mom who would end up with the most fruit. (We kids and the birds were eating everything raw. Mom was canning everything she could get her hands on.

I had so many peaches when I was very young that i just don't care for them much anymore. When mom and dad brought me home from Bremerton, Washington (where he had been stationed) that is all they had to feed me. I got my fill.
Sounds like your farm was much like my grandparent's place. Canning was a great way to feed a family some good food year round. I was very fortunate to grow up the way I did.

@celticeagle Up until I started having physical problems, I'd buy a bushel or two of peaches when they started getting ripe and gorge on them instead of eating regular food. I'd still make food for Pretty because she doesn't like peaches but I rarely ate anything besides peaches during the summer. I'd keep bowls full of them in the fridge until I ran out and go buy another bushel or two and do it again.
Now, I'm considered diabetic so I'm not supposed to eat very much sugary/sweet foods at a time... I still eat one or two a day but that's my limit. (I check my blood sugar twice a day. As long as it's not too high (fasting blood sugar is usually around 80 to 95) then I'll have one. If it is higher, then I'll just wish.)
I believe I had a great childhood.

Prunes
Oh my god yes I loved prunes.
Spitting the stone out was the fun part.
Prunes are great
Got lots of Iron in them
They used to give them to sick kids here.
And they are great with custard

Yes, prunes. Iron and fiber too I believe. Haven't tried them with custard. I did find a recipe for chocolate cake made with some. Very tasty. I am a chocolate lover so am always on the hunt for a new and interesting recipe.

@celticeagle Maybe. We're just enjoying the ripe peaches and bagging the super goopy ones for the freezer.
