Prickly Pear Bloom

It looks like I will have a couple more soon. They don't last very long. But are pretty while they last. We got the yard done. I did the weed whacking this morning as the grass was still damp. It finally dried off around 2 this afternoon. It didn't take me very long to get mine done. Dinner was hamburgers and macaroni and cheese. Easy but good. Now I just need to water plants and feed the chickens. Then I can play on my phone, color, crochet or work on my puzzle. Haven't decided yet. Hope you had a good day.

I just finished weed eating my yard. The weeds grew really fast.

They are very short-lived blooms, but beautiful and it is nice that you have more coming. I miss my plant that I had like that, but it was in the garden in our old home that we moved from.

Do you eat prickly pear pads? Mom used to clip some off a clump growing in a tub on our farm, peel them and cook them with some type of meat. The pads took on the flavor of the meat. They were delicious! Prickly pears are really delicious, too. (I always hated peeling the outer skin off but the pulp was worth the effort.) Hope you have a good night.

@wolfgirl569 Mom had one of those oblong tubs filled with dirt and prickly pear cactus so didn't mind taking off enough for a meal once in a while.

Those flowers are pretty, do the cacti also produce the prickly pears?

They are supposed to produce fruit but I haven't had that yet. Of course last year I only had one flower.

@wolfgirl569 - I tried the fruits, but the taste is not interesting, bland.

If it gets pollinated it will produce a fruit. But as I only have the one bloom it probably won't

So pretty. I think I told you that I've always wanted a cactus plant. No place to put it though.

These are supposed to be cold hardy. I planted some outside this spring to see how they do.

@LindaOHio The ones in the picture I do. If the others survive this winter I will plant those somewhere. Then I will just bring cuttings in each year that I start.
