Coca-Cola Trump Approved

Coca-Cola confirmed that it will release a new Coke made with cane sugar. The announcement follows a social media post from President Donald Trump last week in which he claimed he persuaded the company to replace high-fructose corn syrup. The company revealed in its earnings report Tuesday that as “part of its ongoing innovation agenda,” it will launch in the fall an “offering made with US cane sugar” as part of its product range. Some versions of Coke already use cane sugar, including Coca-Cola sold in Mexico.

See, it confused me when that became a thing because Mexican Coke is sold in the United States too (I buy it). So we’ve always had access to it if we just looked a few more places.

@AmberPam I always thought regular coke was much too sweet now I think I will avoid it, All that sugar can't be good either, Besides you know Trump has no idea about these things he is just happy whe n he gets his way,

@RasmaSandra Regular drinks are always sweet. Because I think most of them, I am not talking about any particular drink, but most of them do have added sugar which isn't good if consumed on a regular basis.

@RasmaSandra Oh ok. But is that anything out of the way for the company? I don't think so.

I'm glad to see the replacement of the high-fructose corn syrup. I hope Trump did have something to do with this. He needs to do something good.

I had access to Mexican Coke with cane sugar but I like Cherry Coke. I am happy with the plans to return to sugar as a sweetener in all their products. Except sugar free, of course, lol. People have been calling for this for decades. I'm surprised Coke has finally listened. Trumps announcement last week may have just started a new trend for soft drink bottlers.

Is it a new Coke, or an old Coke, I suppose is the question, right? Because before 1984, that's what was used. Pure cane sugar. In 1984 Coke switched to HFCS which is made from corn. In most other countries, if you buy a Coke, it's made with pure cane sugar. Why did they make the switch? It's cheaper, for one. It's sweeter for two. And it lasts longer on the shelf for three. The fact that it's sweeter ALSO adds to the cost savings because they can use less of it to get the same sweetness. Why else did they do it? Tariffs on pure cane sugar. They switched in part to avoid the tariffs. By the way, another little tidbit...if you see a Coke bottle with a yellow cap? It's probably made with pure cane sugar. These yellow-capped bottles usually appear around Passover since corn is considered unkosher by Jews during this time and they can still enjoy a Coke. Mexico, Australia, and Europe all typically sell Coke using pure cane sugar. It sounds like an odd thing to equate this to, but it has been said many times, Trump is about choice and freedom, right down to what we eat and drink. If people want sugar soda, shouldn't they have the option to do that? Can the government provide incentives for companies to offer it? Yes. Is pure cane sugar considered healthier? Yes. So, more freedom and more healthy choices. It's what America SHOULD be about, right down to your Coca-Cola.
